The first product of the Blender Institute is ready to be released. It`s a DVD series called Blender Open Movie Workshop.
Here is a word about the DVD by Ton Roosendaal:
The Blender Open Movie Workshop DVD series is a Blender Institute product, targeted at spreading the knowledge of previous participants in Open Movie projects. DVD revenues will be used to support future Open Blender projects.
As first DVD Bassam Kurdali made the "Mancandy FAQ", about animation and rigging in Blender. The second DVD is being created by Andy Goralczyk, explaining in full detail the creation of a scene in Blender from sketch to final composite.
The DVDs are all open content, licensed as Creative Commons Attribute. Its videos will become available freely dowloadable as well.
Visit the Blender Foundation e-Shop to check it out.

Mancandy in the vitruvian pose!
Greatest DVD Cover Ever.
Funny.. I was just thinking today - as I grind my teeth in this Maya class - when would that Mancandy DVD be ready. And.. there it is! Or at least it would be if the e-shop wasn't overloaded! Way to go Bassam!!
How many hours does it sport ?
And could we take a look at the index/table of contents ?
Oh my Gosh!! I love the music for the teaser! I have to know who wrote it and how I can get more! Is it the same fellow that wrote the score for the Elephants dream? Somebody please fill me in.
when will it be freely downloadable? or is it already?
I just watched the teaser and I really like what you're doing, Bassam! You really do take the time to explain everything in very nice and calm way. Also, I laughed out loud at the 'block of cheese' and 'bar of soap' overlays :)
This is just professional work and I am ordering right now.
Way to go Bassam.

Damn... I like open source :)
@dpoon: do you like open source, or free stuff? :)
unhappily the main reason why all are saying that they love opensource is it's cost (too bad but i love that thing also:))... but i think we need such a workshop video in blender shop like "coding Blender" or something like that...i think it would be useful for people who wants to participate in blenders development but have absolutely no knowledge how to do it (that's me:D) and are feared from dry information in these books for programming languages learning....
@rcas: no table of content, but there is a picture of the DVD chapters:

Great stuff, Bassam! Really looking forward to having this in my hand.
Placed my order.. I hope this will learn me a lot about animation in blender!
thanks everyone. gulp. I'd better finish it then...
I love open source as well...because even IF you payed, it would never be enough for what you get in return from the community.
But to make a start, I ordered that awesome DVD!!!
I love open source too!... Probably because:
a) I'm a bit of a coder so the mere idea of being to get my dirty little hands on some source code appeals to me an awful lot!!! ;) Open source people are also nice about what you do with the code, so while for example, a company that makes closed source software will patent all their methods and algorithms and stuff so nobody else can use it, open source means anybody can use it and improve on it!!
b) I think people should have the right to pay the price they want to (i.e. donate) and while I'd recommend doing this, it's also very nice that you aren't forced into it, because for somebody like me (a student), I really can't afford to pay even a student price!! Plus you don't get the benefit of being able to use your work for anything much if you use student copies of programs!
c) The program stands a good chance of surviving a long time - and development happens at a blistering pace anyway for popular open source software. (e.g. blender) And in my book: development = excitement!
d) The open source community really is excellent!!

Who has done the DVD cover design? I like both this and the Peach DVD designs and I'd like to know who!
I'd also like to see a tutorial on how had he done it.. if possible! Please!
@ Bassam. You make it look so easy. \^_^/
Thanks for all the knowledge you sharing.
Peace
Seems DVDs are printed and ready for shipping according to Blender.org news, great!
