SIGGRAPH 2007 has recognized the media coverage by BlenderNation of Blender development and CG news by approving us as an official media company to cover any of the events at this years show.
I'll be covering the Blender Birds of Feather conferences and if I can corner Ton, perhaps a video interview with him and other presenters as well.
I've also received several requests from exhibitors to review their products and conduct interviews though I'm not to sure yet which ones I'll accept. I now feel like a kid in a candy shop, so many presenters and events, which ones do I choose to review. So I'm asking for your help in suggesting what you'd like to see covered and what questions would you like me to ask. I'll be attending August 5-7, so check out my list below and the SIGGRAPH 2007 website, if you see something that might be of interest, tell me about it. While I won't promise that I'll cover it, if enough people start requesting the same thing then I'll do my best to check it out.
So far on my list to cover:
Blender Foundation, Community Meeting, Monday 6 August
San Diego Convention Center, Room 29B, 10:30 am - noon, Ton Roosendaal
Blender Foundation, Artist/Developer Showcase, Monday 6 August
San Diego Convention Center, Room 29A, 4 - 6 pm, Ton RoosendaalAnimation Festival - on going
Animation Mentor - Video interview with Bobby Beck (FINDING NEMO), Shawn Kelly (TRANSFORMERS) and Carlos Baena (RATATOUILLE).
Definitely going to check these out as well:
Khronos Group, Lucasfilm Ltd.; Omation; Pixar Animation Studios; Rhythm & Hues Studios; Sony Electronics Inc.; Sony Pictures Imageworks Inc.; Vicon; Wacom Technology Corporation; Walt Disney Animation Studios; Walt Disney Internet Group.
Under Consideration to review (and time permitting):`
Organic Motion will unveil the world's first commercial markerless motion capture system.
Google, Blue Sky Studios, Inc., BOXX Technologies, Inc., NVIDIA Corporation

You must cover all about blender i think they did such a good video review last year .i still have the video files on my workstation ... besides is there going to be video toturials, from the elepants dream gang (bassam jason ton ) i think that some of the best toturials was about compositin ,fluids , and charcter animation, damn such a shame that i cant be at this years siggraph but who knows maybe next year :-)
Oh and lets not forget Bart hah hah he looked so funny on those videos
Nils Thuerey (Blender fluids coder) is presenting a paper on bubbles and foam at the Animation Workshop before Siggraph itself. Not sure if the media access extends to the workshops...
Ah, sorry, I didn't notice the days you were attending. Oops. Anyway, that's great that you'll be there! We'll have a nice little Blender posse it seems.
Awwwww. I REALLY wish I could be there!
Great!
Take an obnoxious amount of pictures of everything, especially the stuff that seems irrelevant like people, signs, water fountain, etc. The more pictures the better the experience for those of us who wish they were there. Everyone always takes pictures of the same obvious things.
I would be happy to send you an extra SD card if needed...
Great!!!
Please, ask to the Hollywood guys why they use so many Open Source applications, but they keep propietary millions of lines of code of 3D applications that they generate in their studies... And encourage them to use and patrocinate open source software, like Blender.
OFFTOPIC: seems obvious to me that Blender Nation needs a proper logo... maybe time for a contest ?
Excellent!
Blendernation almost on the same level as CNN!
Congrats to you, guys!
Great to hear Blender Nation will be there. Loved last years coverage. More of the same.
Better than CNN I say already.
Oh my vote besides great Blender coverage is for Organic Motion.
If the Jim Henson people are there possibly doing digital puppet stuff, you should talk to them!!
Also, Paul Debevec (this year releasing a holographic video display!) would be cool to catch, and Takeo Igarashi (Fibermesh sketched-based modeling)
Pleeeeease look out for things related to videogames. (Almost everything?)
Btw, congratulations! Enjoy you visit for us Tim :))

I vote for that :)
Currently, I don't have any suggestions of where to go, your list looks good.
Just be sure to take lots of pictures and be sure to go to Pixar's booth!
I'd agree with ibkanat and Bmud on Organic Motion and (especially) the holographic display - new technology and research always interests me the most (apart from blender that is lol) so hope you'll be able to get coverage of them as well! Also, I've got a spare 2GB CompactFlash card kicking around that I can't use - so if Kernons SD offer is no good for your camera or whatever ;) lol... - but I don't think many devices use CompactFlash! nm, just take some awsome videos of anything cool lol!
~epat... :)
I really do wish we had a show like SIGGRAPH here... Alas, little NZ is a little bit... well, little.
malefico: A few of us have tried here: http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?t=88050
