We are sure you remember the Google SoC project by Nicholas Bishop entitled “Interactive Sculpting with Multi-Resolution Models." If not check out our articles here and here, and download the latest build. Using this tool, Scott Wilkinson (Ex-Nihilo) has posted an amazing model on cgtalk and he has even made the .blend file available.
Information from Scott on this project:
This image was created with blender 2.42 using Bishop's Sculpt Mode build. It was rendered using blender's internal renderer with no post production. It took about 11 minutes to render on my Athlon XP 2200+ (1.34 GHz) machine with 1.GB of RAM. There are no bump or displacement maps. The texture and specular maps were created with Paintshop Pro 7.
Make sure to visit and his site to check out the .blend!

Fantastic work!
Make sure you vote for it while at CGtalk.
Any chance of gettinga vvdeo tutorial of the workflow?
I second the motion for a video tutorial!
WOW - I never knew sculpting tools like these were so powerful, I can't wait to give it a try but my computer's too slow anyway at present probably for this sort of thing... still... good work, that's all I can say! -epat.
In my tests, at least on my mac, the sculpt mode in blender is far faster than zbrush. Fantastic work from the soc team.
Please tell me how long this took to make. Please!
sweet!
That's great.
I'm not sure if this adds anything new, but this was posted on BA and moved to the gallery before it was posted on CGTalk (I think, I'm not checking dates.)
The original BA thread can be found at the following address:

I am using windows xp, and the file would not install because of python24.dll was not found,Can anyone help?
IAN
go to blender3d.org and download the 2.42a zip file (not the windows installer). unzip it into a folder such as SCULPT and then copy all the files that came with the sculpt build into that SCULPT folder, which will contain python and everything else. now you can run the sculpt .exe file (not the regular blender.exe)
hope that helps
Awsome modelling! And thank you very much for the blend file. I too will second the motion for a video tut on this.
Thanks Morris
Impressive. Good art to backup the dev.
I'm wondering what's the state of the sculpting tools for inclusion in the main CVS branch...
Do you have some news? Nicholas has stopped posting on his SoC blog after the project is finished...
LET WE KNOW!!!!
Renato.
