In the biggest shots there’s nearly 2500 bins! That also made it impossible for me to render on my crappy laptop. Thankfully Luca Bonavita (mindrones.com) dedicated his 4 core monster to rendering for me for a couple nights, which made him a lifesaver!
All the animation/rendering/compositing/editing/audio was done in two weeks.
Naturally it’s all released under the Creative Commons Attribution license.
cool animation love the cel shaded look. Was the black edges around the objects done with blenders edge settings in the scene panel?

being a reggae fan, particularly like the choice of music at the start :) and the style of the whole thing is great. The way the grass sits under each character is cool, and the bins flying off at the end is great!
Hey Bart, would you please add direct links under any future flash videos you post. It’s very annoying for us people who don’t have the non-free flash player. Whenever I encounter a Youtube flash video like this one, I have to search the article’s page source code for the Youtube video ID, and then manually translate it into a video page address.

Smithy: Actually no… that didn’t quite give me the results I wanted. The edges are an extra renderlayer in which all objects are rendered with a completely black material… the result is ehm… dilated. Then the regular layer is overlayed on it. That’s also why there’s only an edge around all objects (nothing inside or between them).

Nice animation. However, the grass moving with the character is a bit weird… I don’t understand this choice. Maybe it’s a trick to spare computer ressources…

@ROUBAL – I think it was meant to simulate sort of a war game style… you know, like, those little characters that sit on stands with grass or whatnot under them, and you battle with them on a board. What are those things called?
@spacetug – that’s exactly what I thought… I was just waiting for him to get clunked.
Overall, I liked the video. The visuals were really awesome, shiny and cool and creative. The story could use a little work, though. LOL.
