In preparation for entering the Sketchfab 'Heroic Voxels' contest, Kyan0s did a study of a Japanese garden in Blender. I asked him how he made it.
I have used Blender first to import and re-build the world that was divided in nine tiles, made with MagicaVoxel, then I've worked the lighting and have added an orthographic camera that I positioned to have an isometric view like in many old games. After that, I have worked with that fabulous tool which is the node editor to make a little atmosphere and to do a tilt-shift photography effect, to make a glow, and a vignetting in order to give the effect of a miniature world.
