Asset Sketcher is a blender addon that lets you paint objects directly into your scene. If you are a level designer or love to create scenes with lots of details, this will be the perfect addon for you. Asset Sketcher lets you populate your scene very quickly. With a variaty of settings you can randomize how assets are added to your scene. With some intuitive short cuts you can delete and pick objects directly from your scene, which gives you some extra speed for designing your level. Sigh... this addon is really useful but I was hoping it would be free. is it ever going to be free? are we going to have a similar feature implemented in blender? well I hope not most of the addons in the future are going to be paid but this one is probably important enough that I might pay $29.95 for this one.

      • Thanks for the tip Jonathan. I was really tired of using particle systems to set up instancing, they give you so little control over the object distribution and it changes every time I try to adjust vertex groups.

        • okay, I tried it. not that it gives any finer control but at least I am not limited to particle systems when exporting the scene to a game engine. (referring to grease pencil scatter)

          • It's pretty finicky. Admittedly I've never quite gotten it to work, but I know some people use it with good results.

            Ndee's asset sketcher really shows what an extra level of polish can do for the usability of an add-on.

      Professional tools demand a price. It's good for the ecosystem of blender if there are high quality tools available, even if only for a price.

        I would agree after all maya and max have many extra plugins you can buy. If smaller developers find that they can make some money selling plugins for blender gradually larger companies will find the same thing and start making and selling plugins as well. Or at least adding blender compatibility.

      I've seen some obnoxiously self entitled attitudes in the Blender community but to literally say "I like your stuff so give it to me free!" takes the cake.

    This addon looks pretty useful to me. $30 isn't much to pay if you can use it. One thing that make it a no-brainer buy is if it magically decided to avoid interpenetration of the objects you distribute.

    • I agree, even though I usually don't buy paid addons. I will probably buy It since I could see a lot of cases that I would use it in environment modeling and handmade texture creations. still I have more expensive software that I might not use as much as this and I realize that the developers should have a source of income for their hard work. I just have a few questions about the purchase: will I get any future updates for free, and can I use it on more than one device that I own?

  3. Saw this one in my email from Blender Market. As a game developer, who often created environments within Blender before exporting them out, this is something I definitely could use. Tools like these save tons of time. Bookmarked this under my "Buy ASAP" bookmark list.

  4. It looks like a huge time saver to me, so I guess the addon quickly pay for itself. We all have to make a living, nothing wrong with that.

    This is similar to the feature inside of Vue that lets you paint vegetation on the terrain, and in light of that another feature that might be of interest to everyone, would be the ability to paint more than one of the same object onto the terrain at any one time, instead of painting the same object onto the terrain one object at a time.

    new options could be, brush size, number of objects, different sizes and shapes of brushes, things like that.

    Another feature might be to be able to paint more than one type object onto the terrain at a time, like a mixture of three different grass types and two different flowers to give a very natural look to the terrain because nothing in nature is exact.

    • Actually you can already paint more than one object at a time. Simple add objects to a group and then you can paint from the group, which will choose one of the grouped objects at random while painting. It's sweet.

  6. Looks Great. I see you used Low poly objects in the demonstration, but how does it work with high poly objects? Does it slow way down?
