Blenderstorm is a place where you can post and vote for Blender improvements. It's an excellent project and it was sorely missed after it went down more than a year ago. Nathan Letwory [JesterKing] gives us an update on the situation.
Nathan Letwory writes:
It sure has been a long, long, LONG wait. But finally, after all the busy times and me being sometimes lazier than I should've been, I made myself finally bite the bullet and steam Blenderstorm ready for your use.
"Blenderstorm?" you may ask. And I answer: "Yes, Blenderstorm". Before the big crash in May 2009 Blenderstorm was the site where users could send in their ideas to improve Blender. Where they could vote on those ideas and work on proposals how to implement those ideas.
The new Blenderstorm does that, and more! I used the latest Ideatorrent code and fixed it to work on MySQL too. The nice thing is that now Blenderstorm has quite much improved features to work with for you users.
Currently Blenderstorm is still running Drupal default theme, but I'm sure you all know how to concentrate what really matters!
So! Register and vent your ideas to the world and get your fans to vote for your great improvement proposals.
Let's make Blender the best there is, shall we?

Hmm, it seems that e-mail doesn't work. I don't receive any mails from my registration.
I registered, and it worked perfectly for me...
Tharyan, you probably made a typo with your email address. If you tell me what the part should be before the @, then I can check if it's ok or not - and fix if needed.
What's the mechanism for getting ideas out to active devs? I think that since they're contributing their time and effort into improving Blender, we'd like them to spend it actually improving blender, not sorting through all the ideas on the site. While the layout looks great for brainstorming, I think it's not that helpful for devs looking for projects to work on.
One way to improve this would be to add a category (or two) between "Popular Ideas" and "Ideas in Development". Something along the lines of "Finished Ideas". When users think that they have reached a consensus on an idea, they put it in this category.
Just a thought.
I really like this aggressive approach the blender team has taken up lately to encourage user awareness and participation. I foresee great things.
I'll be sure to help with telling newer users that the feature they want always existed. And point them in the right direction on how to use it.
Problem solved. The email came through. I guess it just took a little bit longer to reach the mailserver. :)
