Here's another excellent videotutorial by Blendernewbies' Kernon Dillon. This time, he dives into the topic of applying and positioning texture decals in Blender.
The duration is a little over 12 minutes and I think it's time well spent if you're new to this topic.
I was surprised by the professional touches Kernon added such as the leader and the quick review at the end - very nice indeed! The only crit I have is that the sound is a bit too loud - at normal volume levels on my computer, the first 'Hello!' woke me up pretty thoroughly ;-)

This is an excellent video tutorial. Not only is the material very helpful, it's done with style. Nice work, Kernon!
Indeed! quite nice!
Hey, Thanks Bart! I thought my traffic stats looked a little...BlenderNationed. LOL!
And yes, I agree totally with the audio. I'm probably going to redo it. It's definitely one of my weaknesses, currently.
Thanks again and I hope it helps those that choose to view it.
Does any one know what's with the buttons on his title bar? Like, what program is that and what does it do?
@egan
Those are window tools that nVidia allows you to add to your application title bars. The options provided are:
- send window to a selected monitor
- send application to a selected monitor
- set the transparency of the window
- set window to be always on top
- set the current window to be visible on all desktops
- collapse the window (and any associated windows) to the current desktop
- set custom window settings for the current application that will be applied when the app loads
- additional menu options
- collapse current window to its title bar
- move current window to the next monitor
There are other options but, those are the ones that I find useful. Most modern video cards come with similar tools.
He, that was really interesting Kernon, I even understand perfectly your english with my french ears, cause you speak well and all the words are clear. Presentation ; shortcuts showing made a quality professional tutorial.
It could be great to have such a good material come on the blender.org website, to have a quick initiation to Blender for new user. I hope to see more great tutorial like this.
Good job !
Is there a mirror?
@Johan: do you need one? As far as I know Kernon has plenty of bandwidth. I just tested and I can still download the movie at over 400kB/s - even whle the site is BlenderNationed :-)
Bart: The Chinese government is very sensitive about websites with the word 'blog' in it. lol.
Thanks for this well made tutorial. Now that we have experts here: how do you decal the image so it gets wrapped around the torso?
@nick,
Try using "ClipCube" instead of "Clip" in the Map Image panel of the Texture Buttons.
Nicely done. Very methodical. Thanks!
Bart: The Ashkenazi Khazar NWO government is very sensitive about websites with the word 'blog' in it. lol.
@Johan, Zion: please stop spamming
Yeah, well- I'm serious.
"The Great Firewall of China is an important tool for the Chinese Government in their efforts to censor the Internet. It works, in part, by inspecting web traffic to determine whether or not particular words are present. If the Chinese Government does not approve of one of the words in a web page (or a web request), perhaps it says “f†“a†“l†“u†“nâ€, then the connection is closed and the web page will be unavailable — it has been censored."
Get educated people. The Chinese Blender community can only access Blender tutorials under certain conditions, i.e. no 'blog' in your web address. Hell- you cannot even access Wikipedia from China. That is a fact.
Other blogging websites are only accessible if they are INSIDE the great firewall i.e. in China itself.
?? i clicked the link, but on their site i couldn't access the tutorial! theres no link to a video file.
@Phil: scroll down; the link is there.
i am not chinese,
but this make me really , really angry !!!
how humans can sometimes be very very stupids ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
awesome !
