Blender at FJORG!

FJORG!With the end of SIGGRAPH 2007, a lot of cool stuff related to the conference and contests are showing up in the web. A video about FJORG! was released last week, showing that some team was using Blender during the competition! Yes, besides all the resources available like Maya, 3ds max and XSI, it`s really good to see a team using Blender.

But, how do we know someone was using Blender? Take a look at this video, which shows some nice images from the competition:

Besides seen a lot of people using Viking helmets, did you notice the Blender interface at the end of the video? We just couldn`t identify the team. But it was there!

Just for the record, this is the wining animation, from the Mocap team:

I prefer Last Date by PictureThis. Maybe they missed the first place because they didn't covered the topic that well..

I went to school with these guys, they pretty much slept in the studio, had a bed in the back of the room… I agree that picture this is another great animation though, but I'm biased in my choice… Not that this matters as far as the selection who won, but if you haven't seen team mocap's demoreel for FJORG you should check it out…

from the official website….not sure if blender was actually used, or if the team was disqualified maybe…but it would be nice to know if it was used in a relatively high profile competition.

Greatde demo! Was it made with Blender?

  6. 6 Andrew Edit Link

No, the demo was the one team mocap used to apply for FJORG, which in their case was done using maya… As for the software hats a good question… I did hear from a friend down at siggraph that a team did hit a little bit of trouble. He mentioned the school but for as much as I like this guy stuff he tells me always has to be taken with a grain of salt… Never know how accurate it really is . . .

I was on the USC team: The Henchmen. I requested that blender be put on the machines and it was installed on every machine - promise. I used blender to model our tooth character and props. Rigging and animation was done in Maya.

Cool clip…it's weird to see the computer screen of me working on a character's eyeball with dramatic music on youtube. Random.

Next year some of you hotshots should organize an all blender team. That would kick ass!!!

Ryan, nice that you brought Blender to FJORG! Well done.

    What was your favourite "distraction"?
