Tutorial: Joan of Arc

rendu10j_i_th.jpgOne of the most famous modeling tutorials on the net is ‘Joan of Arc’. Almost 80 pages long, it covers everything from modeling the body and accessories to texturing and rigging the model.

Although it is written for 3DS Max, you can use almost everything directly in Blender (especially the texturing and rigging sections are more specific to 3DS Max). All the required image templates are provided

I know this tutorial for a long time. In my opinion this tutorial is the best box modeling, low poly character tutorial.

I was modelled my fisrt girl with this tutorial, when blender hasn’t loop modelling tools… now is very easy.

Im totally new to 3D modeling, I-ve downloaded Blender 2 months ago, and making a “library” of tutorials, samples, etc downloaded from the web. The point is, Im too rookie to know the equivalent between 3DMax and Blender, so, what about making a 100% Blender version of this tutorial…!!!

    • etr9j

This was a standard during my Max days. I’m glad it’s being reintroduced to Blender users!

@marcos: I agree: a 100% Blender version of this tutorial would be awesome!

    • Kayde

Yeah, while these tutorials for 3D Max are still very useful, if someone skilled enough rewrote the tutorial in great detail for blender, it would be invaluable.

    • Robin

I’ve thought about that too, Marcos. But I realised that I wasn’t experienced enough.

Akator has a blend file of the completed model available for download at the Blender 3D model repository (http://www.katorlegaz.com/index.php?a=download&c=Blender_3D_Model_Repository). Look under “Characters” for the file named “c0rkn0t_broun6_female.zip”.

    • Poot

I am having trouble conecting the legs togather, can someone help me???

    • Marcos

Hola Sangio… has pensado en traducirlo y “pasarlo” a Blender…… este es justo el tipo de manuel que he estado buscando….!

    • marcos

      Please… a blender port for this tutorial…!!!!!

      :-(

    • Kalyan

I wanna tutorial on facial modeling and body modeling

    • Steve

nice, but I’m having a hard time replicating the Chamfer function on the glove section. Any one found a way round this as Blender doesn’t have a chamfer function. (apart from messing around with V and P)!

    • Alan

Might wanna update your links. The English page has now been moved to:
      http://www.3dtotal.com/tutorials/max/joanofarc/joanmenu.asp

The original URL returns an error. :/

    • jason

The model at the 3d model repository does’nt exist anymore. There are some downloadable models of males and females , is this what you meant. If not , can you tell us where else we can get a finished joan of arc model?

    • http://www.blendernation.com Bart

    • Sandra

It does not hurt to know a little bit about the real Joan of Arc. There is good site with a lot of pictures at http://www.maidofheaven.com

Both links provided don’t work. After some searching I think I found the English version:
      http://www.3dtotal.com/pages/tutorials/max/joanofarc/joanmenu.php

Also this tutorial seems nice: http://www.3dtotal.com/team/Tutorials_3/Box_modeling_video_tutorial/Box_modeling01.php
but I didn’t have the time to check it out!

    • http://www.blendernation.com Bart

I’ve updated both links – thanks for the heads-up!

And while I was at it, I also added the Spanish link mentioned above.
