Free Add-on: Bioxel Nodes – Blender add-on for scientific volumetric data visualization
Bioxel Nodes is a Blender add-on designed for scientific volumetric data visualization. Leveraging Blender’s Geometry Nodes and Cycles render engine, Bioxel Nodes allows for the easy import and detailed, realistic rendering of volumetric data. Unlike previous tools, Bioxel Nodes ensures scientific accuracy and high-quality visuals.
The add-on supports multiple formats including DICOM, BMP, JPEG, PNG, TIFF, Nifti, Nrrd, and HDF5, with more formats like Meta, VTK, and others to be supported soon. Future updates will also include features for generating sections and supporting time sequence volumes.

(I´m quite sure that it wasn´t available at the time of this post).
I tested it; It is a great tool for professional 2D/3D medical illustrators looking for new hyperrealistic rsults but requires much work on every phase: lightning, material settings and especially segmentation.
