Watch Solstice-5: Impressive Sci-Fi Short Film Made with Blender

4

Paul Chadeisson has a legendary reputation as a master sci-fi shipwright, with his work appearing in massive productions such as The Creator, Foundation, Cyberpunk 2077 and many more. He's just released his first short film on his YouTube channel, and the results are as impressive as you'd expect from an artist of his caliber; all made using Blender!

The film features all of Chadeisson's staples (massive incredibly detailed ships, impossibly long lenses, atmospheric storytelling telling) framed through an eerie narrative and great music and sound design. Check it out in full below:

  1. I know that Paul has been a big fan of Octane Render in his past work, and I have been wondering if Solstice-5 was rendered in Octane, or Cycles? I am also curious as to whether the pyro and smoke simulation was done in Blender or if it was achieved in another app like Houdini or EmberGen?

    • Yeah, I'd also be very interested in knowing the details. I mean VFX made in Blender is a pretty broad statement, so I'd love to see some breakdowns/making of/tutorials, etc of exactly what and how it was all done, rendered and even how all the data/workflow/pipeline was managed.
