Is Blender getting faster from one version to another?

I am happy with rendering times in Blender, Cycles is extremely fast and efficient. This what bothers me about Blender is the viewport responsiveness and how it handles big scenes. We all want multithreaded, faster viewports for large scenes, high-density meshes, and sculpting.
