  1. Rendering to compressed, 8-bit mp4 is such a bad idea. Image sequences are a much better way to go, then use ffmpeg or other encoders to make your delivery versions like mp4, or masters in codecs like prores. For one, this lets you start and stop renders, as well as being able to re-render changes in small sections of your scene by just deleting some of the frames and re-rendering. Exr is a good image format, it's lossless, fast and gives you better colour depth than compressed mp4. Starting out in a lossless, 16-bit format lets you spin off copies in other codecs without generation loss that you get from re-encoding mp4.
