Who needs After Effects? Create a Simple Title Sequence in Blender 3.0

I love Adobe's After Effects. Yep. I do. I would love there to be an open source alternative to AE, but it's just not out there. Nothing quite hits the exact spot that After Effects lives in. However, that does not mean that it's not possible to do simple 2D planar style effects in Blender. On the contrary, it's really easy to achieve it. And, if you want to, you can add some interesting effects into it as well, such as a dynamic based reforming of an image. Or pulling focus, and let's not forget all the fancy twiddling with vignettes, distortion and Chromatic effects you can do in comp.

You can even have separate scenes in the same file that do different things which you can add together in Blender's NLE to add completely 2D elements over a 3D animation, but I am getting ahead of myself!

Maybe in the next one.

Okay, strap yourselves in, this is just over an hour, I cram in a fair amount but I hope you like it!

I am a Senior Creative over at Space Digital in the North West of England. I've been creating CG stuff for the TV and Corporate World for (mumble-mumble) years now and have been lucky to work on some amazing projects. I discovered Blender about 9 years ago, opened it and, like so many other, immediately shut it down, but several years ago I needed to so something simple and cost effective (ie. free) and Blender was the only way. I have never looked back and use it now all the time alongside Maya every working day. I also have a YouTube channel called GENVFX where I teach people how to use every modifier one by one and as deeply as I can as well as the occasional tutorial.
