Ryan Guy writes:

Hi, this is Ryan Guy and Dennis Fassbaender of the FLIP Fluids add-on development team!

For 2020, we wanted to put together a special video to show what the Blender artists have been creating with the FLIP Fluids add-on. During the months of April to June of this year, we had received many wonderful animation submissions from many artists. We have been absolutely thrilled to see all of these fantastic creations and have been so excited to finally share them with you!

We thank all of the participants that put in so much hard work, and countless hours of simulation baking and rendering to help us create this video. We also want to thank the Blender community for the enormous amount of support over the years in helping us develop the FLIP Fluids add-on - without you, this project would have never been possible.

Today we are proud to present the FLIP Fluids add-on 2020 Customer Reel! Visit the video description for more credits and links to help support and keep connected with the artists. We're already looking forward to starting the 2021 reel!

Is there any reason to mess around with the FLIP add-on now that Mantaflow is out? Does FLIP have any capabilities that Mantaflow doesn't? Is it any faster or efficient?

    • Although Blender's Mantaflow FLIP simulator and the FLIP Fluids addon both use the FLIP simulation technique, they are very different in what features are available and how features were implemented.

Our FLIP Fluids project focuses strictly on liquid fluid simulation and we put a large development effort into reliability, stability, learning resources, and workflow features. These are the main reasons why our FLIP Fluids addon is still a popular choice after Mantaflow had been added to the main Blender branch. Check out this topic for more info: https://github.com/rlguy/Blender-FLIP-Fluids/wiki/Frequently-Asked-Questions#what-is-the-difference-between-blenders-mantaflow-fluid-simulator-and-the-flip-fluids-addon

A large feature difference is that the FLIP Fluids addon uses a more advanced viscosity solver that is able to handle higher viscosity liquids that buckle, coil, and fold in on itself.

Speed and performance can depend on the simulation scenario, but many of our users that test both the FLIP Fluids addon and Mantaflow cite that our simulator runs faster for many types of simulation effects.

We also have a free trial in case you would like to try it out. I would suggest trying both our addon and Mantaflow to see what fits better into your workflow: https://github.com/rlguy/Blender-FLIP-Fluids/wiki/FLIP-Fluids-Demo-Addon

That's good to know, thanks! I have looked for the answer to that question for a long time without any definitive answer, and this helps a lot.
