Here are the notes from today's 14 UTC meeting in irc.freenode.net #blendercoders. Attendance was a bit low today, so it was done quick :)

1) Blender 2.79 release

2) GSoC wrap

That's it!

Tomorrow will be the usual 2.8 meeting, with probably more news. Maybe it's time to do the 2.8 meeting on Sundays again? Now 2.79 and GSoC are almost done...

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. How do we know which GSOC projects made it to the end? The abundance of weekly reports is the only sign of a failed one?

    • Of the projects listed on the page linked above only Sculpting Tools by Raja Kumar Kedia seems not to have all the weekly reports, the others look in very good shape... according to the reports.

    • If the students don't make it user-friendly, even if it's completed or has these unbelievable abilities, it will fail.

  2. Far as I'm concerned they can release an RC10 since this will be the last release of pre 2.8. It should be solid, really solid.

    • Agreed!

But also praise to blender devs: I find blender to be one of the more stable pieces of software I use! Which is quite amazing given its complexity and steady addition of functionality. Meanwhile many single purpose apps these days manage to frequently glitch out despite weekly "bug fix" releases. So kudos!
