Weekend Challenge: My Castle

20

This weekend, we're challenging you to create a castle in Blender. Any kind of castle goes: one from medieval times, a fairy tale one or perhaps one from a fantasy world?

Rules:

  • Post your work in the comments below (yes, we have a nifty new 'attach image' option below the comments box for this!)
  • Post only new work, not existing.
  • Deadline: Monday April 10 at 23:59 (Amsterdam time)
  • Yan and I will pick the winner.
  • The winner will get a post next week, and will get to pick next weekend’s contest theme.

If you need a little help, here's a tutorial on modeling a castle in Blender.

Have fun! :)

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. a SAND castle! 99% blender (1% for external environment map texture), no post processing. Render Time: 40 mins.

I'm not super happy with the sand textures - still learning how to do procedural stuff in Cycles - but this was the best I could do with the time I had. Any suggestions for how I could create the white surf that hits the shore?

    • Nice job. I especially like the seaweed flags!

As for the foam you might check out this tutorial:

It's not directly about foam on the beach, but the technique should work.

Or you could cheat, with lots of transparent bubbles duli-verted!

    Hi everyone
This is my castle for the weekend challenge. A castle from the future... I'm not all that comfortable with the final result but i don't have time to put on this anymore. Hope you like it.

  3. I got a little distracted with playing with colors and lights, but there's a castle there somewhere. Rendered with Blender Internal. (modeled and lit in blender with a little post in gimp.) I used 2.69 since they took the stars out sometime after that. (usually I use 2.78)

  4. Who's the winner? And which is the nest challenge?
BTW I read Monday so, I thought the following Monday, Just started the project at 6 pm. My fault :P
