VR thesis project: 'Which One?'

0

Following up on this week's story on virtual reality content, here's an interesting application where the Blender Game Engine was used with an Oculus Rift. This project allowed a user to interactively re-arrange a room.

E.Perinelli writes:

"Which One: make your interior choice" is the final thesis of Denise Ferrari, who recently graduated with the highest marks from "Istituto di Designo Palladio" in Verona, Italy.

The project immerses the user in a Virtual Reality simulation of a small room, and allows him to change the arrangement of the windows, the colors of the walls, the texture of the floor, the style of the furniture and the external environment.

The system can generate millions of combinations, the aim is finding the "perfect room" for the user.

The Blender Game Engine and a custom wrapper for Oculus SDK has been used for the realtime rendering on Oculus Rift, a bit of Python manages the transition between the various choices.

The project is a collaboration between Verona FabLab Oculus Project and Istituto di Design Palladio and has been supervised by E.Perinelli, who teaches Blender and VR technology in both organizations.
