Quickly Get Animated Characters into Blender Using Mixamo

7

Things have been a little quiet around Mixamo here on BlenderNation. Now they're back with new tools to make it easier to auto-rig your models and apply their character animation data.
Mixamo writes:

Updates to Mixamo’s Collada file type make it easy to get unique 3D animated characters animation into your Blender project.

Mixamo presents the easiest way to bring character animation into Blender. If you haven't used Mixamo in a while, you'll notice major improvements in how materials and textures are handled in the collada file download type. Mixamo has updated written and video tutorials to walk you through how to automatically rig and apply animations to your own characters. You can also find in-depth tutorials on how to use Fuse, Mixamo’s universal character creator, to build unique characters that work seamlessly in Blender.

This four minute tutorial video covers all the basics you need to get started using Mixamo to speed your 3D character production pipeline. More tutorials can be found in the Mixamo Community.

Test the pipeline yourself by signing up for a free Mixamo account, which comes with one free Auto-rig, a free locomotion pack and trial versions of all Mixamo’s software.
Happy Animating!

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. I'm loving mixamo and really amazed at Fuse's ease of use etc.

I am however challenged with exporting my character from mixamo to blender and including the material -my fuse / .fbx or collada / .dae charterers import fine but they have no materials - can someone give me any tips as to how to import mixamo characters into blender with their materials (the GLSL shading) isn't an option as seen in the tutorial

    Thanks for your time
