Weekend Contest: Golden Days

31

Klamauk's was the winner of the last weekend contest with his work 'Taxi Driver'. For this weekend, he picked 'Golden Days'.

Im thinking about something like golden days, because autum is coming. But i dont really know if its an suitable theme.Golden leaves, last warm sun rays over the hills, a computer running blender while outside its raining and storming, a gold medal winner, a winery is collecting grapes. I think the theme leaves enough space for an own interpretation.

Rules:

  • Post your work below (attach an image and a screenshot if you like).
  • Post only new work, not existing.
  • Vote for your winner by monday.
  • The winner will get a post next week, and will get to pick next weekend’s contest theme. Have fun!

Have an awesome weekend!

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. Hey i took the theme of golden days and sort of interpreted it as a sort of memorable moment like exciting adventures times which you do not forget at remember how good it was.

I added a slight pixelated overlay and made it fuzzy as a memory would be with and it becomes clear towards the sun rather then the boat because i wanted the golden rays to be the main focus point.

I'm still fairly new to blender ( just finished 1 year experience with blender) so there is no composting and is very simple.

  2. "Hot soup for cold days!" I love cold days paired with hot food :) those are my "golden days".

I tried to have two major color schemes; red and blue. I wanted to show the contrast between the two areas. This entire scene was rendered all together in 55 minutes. Rendered in cycles at 300 samples. The most challenging part and the most fun :) was all the compositing. I will post a picture below. Enjoy!

    P.S. Critiques appreciated!

Hey guys, i had a lot of fun doing this piece, i've never seen autumn in real life but i guess the tons of hollywood and internet imagery suffice.

    Cheers!

  4. I interpreted a golden day as a day when something magical happens. On this golden day, something impossible happened, a sun flower grew in wintry tundra.

that wasnt that hard, maybe 6-7 hours
with the sapling addon its easy to create a tree, using particles to duplicate them on a distorted plane (as ground). some planes with textures for the plants (also distribute via particles), some distorted spheres for the stones (again particles to place them)
a simple sun light and sky for the light.

and the most magic happens in the comp. several overlays of leaks and flares

here is a screenshot of the comp nodes

cycles rendertime was about 1.5 hour on my dual xeon e5550, (GPU rendering)

  5. Hi!! Here I leave my contribution. "The Lake's Tree in Autumn". As always in 1 day, using only blender (except for images of textures) and enjoying and learning a lot !!!

    Hope you like !!

  6. I wanted to capture the brilliant orange illumination of sunlit trees. I made this image at the Minnesota Blender User's Group today as my first entry into the weekend contest!
It's a nice way to showcase the new sunrays node. I'm using a mask to keep the blocks from casting rays.

  7. I called this "No More Golden Days". Made up a little story for this one, but unfortunately I added some "last minute"-wrinkles to the paper which made it quite unreadable. Haven't got the time for a re-render just now. Good luck to everyone!

  8. It's been about 5 months since I last used blender and it's great to finally get back into things. I probably could have spent more time on lighting and modelling, ah well.

As always, blender internal. Critiques welcomed/encouraged

  9. Hi, here my entry

Scene prepared especially for this contest in Blender with Cycles.

A little contrast correction and a vignetting effect made in Photoshop ( I still don't feel at ease with the post production in Blender)
