CG Cookie adds a cool upgrade to their site: gamified learning. You can now test your knowledge in tests, gather XP and compete against other students.
Nick Haskins writes:
Often times as kids, it was the simple things that got us the most excited. I know for me, it was the way clouds rolled in across the sky as a large storm approached. I would point my finger to the clouds as if trying to touch them, and I’d pretend I was swirling the clouds. Maybe for some it was the utter amazement at how far you just skipped that stone. For others, playing games outside until the lights came on. Perhaps this was the most common. After all, there were no cell phones or Facebook. Just each other, and games that kept us interested and entertained.
With this in mind, we thought, why not apply that same principle here at CG Cookie?
Well, that’s exactly what we did. This week we launched several new features that we think you’ll really enjoy. We wanted to encourage higher learning by transforming the site from a blog with tutorials, into a platform that will not only challenge you, but test you on the information that you have retained while taking a course. Track your progress within a beautifully designed dashboard experience, and see how you match up to other CG Cookie members.

Well gee. You could have mentioned it's Citizens only before you made me register.
Taking Quizzes after following the classes .. that should be enough of an indication that it only works with Citizens. Not sure how much of a benefit this would be if you only measure your learning on the free classes. Besides, be a good Citizen and help the platform grow :)
I've worked with 3d for 18 years now. I don't need classes. I just wanted to see what the questions were like.
Honest question here: ...Why?
That's a bit like a university professor wanting to read a school textbook in his spare time, but complaining about having to buy it first. lol
More like an engineer perusing a textbook in a bookstore to check what the kids are taught these days. Just curious.
Wow. It sounds like this will make it a lot harder and more complicated to produce tutorials. I like the idea, I just don't envy you guys in Cookie-Land as you implement this.
