Creature Factory 2 is now available on the Blender Cloud

17

Andy Goralczyk has just released Creature Factury 2, in which you can follow him designing a scene with two fighting monsters.

Creature Factory 2 is the second installment or the original Open Movie Workshop DVD produced in 2009. However, this is not a simple refresh, it's an entirely different workflow. Like the first part of the series, Creature Factory 2 is not meant to be a simple follow-along tutorial, instead we witness an inspiring creative process from start to finish.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

I wanted to see the trailer end with a big RAWR or eye-blink. Awsome trailer nonetheless.

On a side note, does anyone know when will the "Match, Track, Blend" be updated? Thank you

The updates will come in smaller chunks. I hope to be able to start doing the first updates in July/August.

Is there any way to help? I was looking for a way to get active again, create some VFX, learn more, and give back to the community.

  2. Loving the high-energy, techno-obnoxious look of the trailer. This is how the montages in a mid-nineties movie about a rogue Blender user played by Jonny Lee Miller would look like.

I did have to check if the final product actually includes narration though, I was afraid it would be just a detailed timelapse.

Everything is narrated with the occasional breaks when my voice started breaking apart :)
      cheers!

to a certain extend, yes. there is a 16 min video at the beginning showing how I did the concept for the head and the body (in krita). however, it is very rudimentary as that wasnt really in the scope for the tutorial. The character evolves over the entire training, so in that sense, most of the Blender sculpting is also concept work.

I can highly recommend the Chaos & Evolutions training DVD by David Revoy for a (way) more detailed explanation on how to create concept art for character modeling.

          kind regards!

    The links aren't working.
I'm starting to believe you do this to keep us active and you keep score somewhere for things we miss :D

  4. Hi,

I have very recently joined the Blender Cloud with a 3 month subscription and shall continue to subscribe, for as long as possible - to show my support for the awesome work that the Blender foundation and Institute work has been doing for all these years. Kudos. Thx for the recent update of Creature factory 2.

One suggestion - Is it possible to make the Open movies and Trainings available on Blender cloud, also as Torrent downloads since it is very cumbersome to download each video individually? One torrent should include the complete set of files (videos, assets, extras) for each individual movie or training.

Torrent is a well known form of channel for software / assets distribution which is automatically managed and can also reduce the load on the Blender cloud servers, since participants who download also contribute towards the distribution, by way of seeding.

Of course, goes without saying, that the torrent should be downloadable by people who are active members of the Blender cloud. So some form of authentication should be enabled.

    Hope you agree. :)

  5. I was wondering if anyone else had problems with viewing the content on the site? I watched the first video, the intro, thought it looked great, and signed up for a subscription. Then, with a great deal of excitement, got ready to watch the rest of the tutorials, but to no avail! The player just stands there and 'loads' from the looks of it, but nothing happens. At one point, the 'play' button showed up, but no more luck then either ... Anyone else experienced this or something like it? I'm on a MacBook Pro with Firefox ... I'll give a try now with some other browser to see if that helps ...

    • So, it sort of works now ... It looks like it (the videoplayer, 'flowplayer') needs to download everything first before it starts playing!? There must be other players out there that works better than this?

        • Hi!
No, I didn't contact support for it, thought I would wait for some feedback on your site first ... :) I used to use Chrome before, but not being 64-bit it doesn't work well with my online banking, and decided to go for Firefox again. So, if it works well in Chrome, I will use that, and be fine with it. I guess the problem really lays with the browser vendors still, don't you think? Thank you so much for the response! :)

  6. HI,

    WARNING !!!

...the purchased videos can only be downloaded in a limit amount of time.
After that time there is no chance to download it again .

looks like" Pay and go home " principle.
contact per email ends up with no answer.

sadly really specially after a PC crash .
