Indie Game: Road to Providence

2

'Road to Providence' is an indie game and an homage to the horror author Howard Lovecraft. The game is being made with Blender, Krita, 3DCoat and jMonkeyEngine.

We (Paul "mifth" Geraskin and Andrew "jama" Kokorev) are 2 persons named as Ugly Band. We love indie games and we love stories by Howard Lovecraft. We decided to dedicate the game called "Road to Providence" to Howard Lovecraft. As he deserves such a thing 1000%.

This will be Quest indie game. With abit of Horror. :)

We use OpenSource tools as we are only 2 indie developers. We use Blender, Krita, jMonkeyEngine. Also, we use 3DCoat as it's really powerful and not so expensive.

  • Blender is one of the best modeling and animation tools. We really enjoy its power.
  • Krita is the best openSource painting application. It has many advanced features as Tiled-Painting, Flters, Brushes, Canvas rotation. We really love it.
  • jMonkeyEngine one of the best 3d OpenSource engines. Java, big community, many advaned tools, SDK based on NetBeans.
  • 3DCoat is not OpenSource but very powerful tool which adds many things where OpenSource cannot give the power. 3DCoat has one of the best professional painting and sculpting tools.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

I love how Krita's becoming a turn-to tool among FOSS-tooled indie developers, and thanks to its introduction to Steam, it might just gain enough promotion to be a valuable tool in every indie dev's toolset. Oh, and good luck, guys!
