The Krita team has just released version 2.8.0, a release that's packed with new features and improvements. Most notably, Krita is now stable on Windows, it has a completely rewritten UI layer to improve the performance for tablets and the OpenGL rendering quality has been dramatically improved.
David Revoy provides an in-depth overview of the changes.
From the announcement:
Krita 2.8 will be the first stable Krita release for Windows. We have been making experimental builds for Windows for about a year now, and a lot of testers helped us to stabilize it. While this is not really a new feature for the Linux user, the step and the work on it was so huge that it does merit the 1st rank in this feature list! Most work on the Windows port has been done by KO GmbH, in cooperation with Intel.

Awesome! :) Downloading right now. Giving to the development fund feels like really well-spent money.
Cool, but I use a Mac..
Here you go: http://nooooooooooooooo.com/
On a more serious note, if I'm not mistaken and last time I checked, there was a Mac version gradually undergoing development. In the meanwhile, maybe you can try using an emulator like Wine?

I have no experience with its performance, but hey, might be worth a shot.
Unfortunately there is no real Mac development for Krita - there are some guys who successfully did it with x11 but it's buggier than the Windows version ever had been as far as I know.
:(
Well.. I will better stick to stable versions of software like photoshop for now. Can't risk it for comercal projects. But I will be happy to use it when mac version will be available. I have tried Krita on windows and it really is a very good software.
This is so cool. You can have Filter Layers to e. g. blur while you paint and later remove/adjust these effects. Something not possible with Photoshop and Smart Objects.
Awesome! running Update manager this morning in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS upgraded Krita to version 2.8 seamlessly. Love the Infinite Canvas... sorry myPaint.
I started using Krita the day they released a Windows version that worked. I have to say I'm blown away. Krita is forever in my design work flow. I was using Photoshop for a lot of stuff just because it was .. well, Photoshop. But honestly, why bother anymore? Krita fills all my needs without the price tag (still running PS CS5 because I can't afford to get the cloud).
Ya know people .. I'm at work here. Why does cool stuff have to be released when I work?
Give us your work schedule and I'll make sure it doesn't happen again ;-)
HAH, thanks Bart - but for the sake of the people I'll .. I'll make this sacrifice. I'll allow software to be announce while I'm working ..
For the people. :)
I know what it's like - Ton has the habit of planning Blender events in Amsterdam during my vacations ;-)
too bad that there is no OS X build - this software looks really promising!
Wenn in their page, they say: 'We do not have OSX packages yet, although some people report success in
building and running on OSX. Volunteers to make OSX packages are very
welcome!' ... :)
Oh, at last a nice painting program with feelings of SAI and for free. Perhaps I'll return to painting and drawing again since I abandoned it around 2005.
Is there a Krita for Android? This looks like it would be an ideal candidate for an Android port.
