Another good way to get a edge masks, is to bake a monochrom curvature map. The big advantage - you can use the texture in every engine.

It isnt possible with Blender, but we can use xNormal. It is a "free-to-use" tool for baking textures like normals, ao maps, cavity and alot more. Curvature maps included.
Curvature maps are a good starting point for gloss maps, too.

This is the reason why I am forced to use Windows. I would love to use Ubuntu, but it isnt possible. Alot of applications arent available for Linux :/ ....but this is another story ^^
