Last weekend’s contest ‘Disco Fever’ inspired Eric Varela to create ‘All abooooooooooooooard! Next stop: Funkytown!‘. He won the contest, and got to pick this weekend’s theme: “Piping Hot: Fresh From The Bakery”. Let your imagination run wild and surprise us :)

As I have every intention of entering the contest this week (time permitting), and since choosing the topic gives me an unfair time advantage for at the very least thinking about my entry I would like to request that should I win this round that the honor and title be passed along to the next runner up. I think it’s much more important to have a variety of members of the community represented than to stroke my own ego.
You’re right, Eric! From now on this will be a new rule – last week’s winner can’t win the next contest, but he can certainly earn an honorable mention :)

I was totally stumped as to what to create, so I just doodle-sculpted some kind of muffin dude, hoping to get ideas where to go with it.
Didn’t finish it, as I wasn’t liking it, I wanted to create something clever but that would be easy to do over the weekend. Couldn’t quite do it this weekend as I’d hoped.
I didn’t finish the concept here and didn’t find a way to fit in the
theme, so this entry isn’t trying for the contest. This is just to
follow through with my swing to just submit something
for once, dagnabbit!

Here is my entry. First time trying to make food in blender. I’m not completely satisfied of the result but I’m quite busy currently so I can’t afford to spend more time on it.
By the way I wanted to name it “croissants” wich is the name of this pastry in french. But since this website is in english I though I should think of a name in english. Unfortunately I couldn’t find any that convinced me so far. Well, I’ll thing again about it and propose a name later.
Croissants are also called croissants in English so go ahead and baptize your creation :)

“Waiting for Someone”
This low poly glitched up with the camera and the walls started to like disappear and stuff. but, nonetheless, I think it still came out good
Try messing with the Start and End values in the Clipping panel in the Camera tab. Decrease the minimum (maybe the glitching has to do with it) and increase the maximum to avoid wall clipping.

Here’s my contribution to the weekend contest, titled “Too much pink” (believe it or not, I don’t like that color, but it was nice for this render). They are all procedural materials, except, of course, the tiles on the wall. Even the fire on the candle is made on Blender. I hope you like it.

Hi! Although this rendering is more technology test than art, I couldn’t resist to put it here. I made it as technology test to learn 3D model and texture reconstruction from photographs using PhotoScan software, that I bought recently. I used Blender and 3D-Coat to repair the scans and it is rendered in Cycles. Materials are just quick setup, could be better. Include it to the contest or not as you wish, I enjoyed making this. ;) Nice week to everyone!

You should have used a bit more yeast, to make the bread lighter :)

I didn’t do any color correction to the textures. They are exactly how they got baked from the photographs. But the truth is, that this bread was really almost yellow inside.
So you used a photo scan software I have tried it before but it did not work.
Well, I must say it really works for me. Many times I’m just surprised how well it can recognize all the details from the photos. It can’t work well on too shiny and transparent materials, which is logical, but most of matte surfaces it scans good.
Of course, the objects from the scene above were scanned separately from many different angles. For the bread itself it was 61 shots from quality camera. ;)

Looks delicious! What is inside of it?
“phulka roti” (flat bread, a staple food in Indian subcontinent). It is bloated with steam during the roasting.
The rendering is so good, I can almost feel the steam escaping!
Of course, it can be made with infinite variety of fillings, mostly veg. (Unlike the pita bread pockets, these fillings are placed inside the dough and then rolled out, and then roasted on the griddle.)
So I feel like I’m a little late to my own party here, but there’s nothing like making the deadline with 2 minutes to spare! So here we go, I give you….”Opening Shop”
