Last weekend's contest 'Disco Fever' inspired Eric Varela to create 'All abooooooooooooooard! Next stop: Funkytown!'. He won the contest, and got to pick this weekend's theme: "Piping Hot: Fresh From The Bakery". Let your imagination run wild and surprise us :)
Eric writes:
I have really been enjoying the weekend contests. I like the colorfulness and playfulness that the past two topics have inspired. I hope I can continue that trend with my choice. For my topic I am going to go with Piping Hot: Fresh From The Bakery. I think we can whip up some delicious entries, and I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with!
Eric also added:
As I have every intention of entering the contest this week (time permitting), and since choosing the topic gives me an unfair time advantage for at the very least thinking about my entry I would like to request that should I win this round that the honor and title be passed along to the next runner up. I think it's much more important to have a variety of members of the community represented than to stroke my own ego.
You're right, Eric! From now on this will be a new rule - last week's winner can't win the next contest, but he can certainly earn an honorable mention :)
Post your work below (attach an image), and vote for your winner. The winner will get a post on monday, and will get to pick next weekend’s contest theme. Have fun!

The Gingerbread Tragedy
More tragedy! Murder On The Kitchen Table!
Enviroment Texture by Bernhard Vogl http://dativ.at/
I love the crying salt shaker!! Is that the egg from the CG cookie robot winner?
Haha, yeah, that crying salt shaker is awesome! Great idea :)
Nice one! :) I like the idea!
Man, I'm loving how this thing is just growing more and more. :)
Bart, you know what? I'm doin' it this time!
ᕙ(°Д°)ᕗ Look out, Weekend Contest!
*opens Blender*
Ha, cool :)
I was totally stumped as to what to create, so I just doodle-sculpted some kind of muffin dude, hoping to get ideas where to go with it.
Didn't finish it, as I wasn't liking it, I wanted to create something clever but that would be easy to do over the weekend. Couldn't quite do it this weekend as I'd hoped.
I didn't finish the concept here and didn't find a way to fit in the
theme, so this entry isn't trying for the contest. This is just to
follow through with my swing to just submit something
for once, dagnabbit!

But hey, there's always next contest! Gotta start earlier on the clever catch next time.
Here is my entry. First time trying to make food in blender. I'm not completely satisfied of the result but I'm quite busy currently so I can't afford to spend more time on it.
By the way I wanted to name it "croissants" wich is the name of this pastry in french. But since this website is in english I though I should think of a name in english. Unfortunately I couldn't find any that convinced me so far. Well, I'll thing again about it and propose a name later.
Croissants are also called croissants in English so go ahead and baptize your creation :)
Oh, great ! I didn't know. Then let's call it "Croissants" :)
They're croissants in America too, we just don't pronounce it correctly.
Wait--you mean, I'm been saying "qqqqqwah-zont!" all wrong?! ;)
It's probably just your accent.
What ac-CENT?!
If not allowed to use French, then call it "heiß!"
I think they look great very appetising, now where’s my
coffee
Great job. Love the lighting!
"Waiting for Someone"
This low poly glitched up with the camera and the walls started to like disappear and stuff. but, nonetheless, I think it still came out good
Try messing with the Start and End values in the Clipping panel in the Camera tab. Decrease the minimum (maybe the glitching has to do with it) and increase the maximum to avoid wall clipping.
Thanks for your advice. It did work, and i updated my entry. =)
"Snack-man"
Blender 2.69 with Cycles renderer, 200 samples. Procedural wood by wesvdes from BlenderArtists.org.
Original post for the wood texture: http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?246113-A-fine-procedural-wood-material-for-Cycles
Hmm, with just the same repeating object I think "Snack-man" should be a bit more obvious. Ah, the wasted time on rendering those flour particles.. :)
What kind of cheese is that? I wonder how the pizza will taste like when it's done eatin' the cheese...
The inspiration was Edam cheese - and the pizza will taste like: pizza! :D
I'll eat it then! :) I love pizza that tastes like pizza :)
Haha, yeah, me too, though sometimes I'm not so lucky with delivery-pizza!
Hi everyone only 30 min this week to do the joke...
I swear it's not a lie
Here's my contribution to the weekend contest, titled "Too much pink" (believe it or not, I don't like that color, but it was nice for this render). They are all procedural materials, except, of course, the tiles on the wall. Even the fire on the candle is made on Blender. I hope you like it.
Very convincing cream!
Thanks!
The cake looks very tasty! :) Nice textures. It's a shame to burn the Blender logo though :-)
I bet he still has 19 left from the 20th anniversary ;)
he he :)
Thank you! The shame is we can't taste it. I get hungry when I'm modeling food...
haha :) That's why I had to pass the contest this weekend. Trying to lose a few pounds...
This is my image its called the paper bakery.
Adorable, love all the itty bitty cupcakes :) Also I thought you threw pizzas in the air not cakes!
Flat Iron Cafe
This is full of great details. Really love the character, and great job on making those coals look red hot!
Thanks, I wanted to make the shapes more varied and texture more random but ran out of time/energy in the end :P
Great work. What I really like with low poly is that it makes people think more about composition. Pictures tend to more interesting too.
Thanks, this is how it looked at different stages of development: http://artbek.co.uk/img/boulangerie_progress.gif
Hi! Although this rendering is more technology test than art, I couldn't resist to put it here. I made it as technology test to learn 3D model and texture reconstruction from photographs using PhotoScan software, that I bought recently. I used Blender and 3D-Coat to repair the scans and it is rendered in Cycles. Materials are just quick setup, could be better. Include it to the contest or not as you wish, I enjoyed making this. ;) Nice week to everyone!

Here is the render without diffuse colors for those, who'd like to see it. ;)
This is a really interesting process.
You should have used a bit more yeast, to make the bread lighter :)
Yeah, I just learn how to bake. ;)
I didn't do any color correction to the textures. They are exactly how they got baked from the photographs. But the truth is, that this bread was really almost yellow inside.
So you used a photo scan software I have tried it before but it did not work.
Well, I must say it really works for me. Many times I'm just surprised how well it can recognize all the details from the photos. It can't work well on too shiny and transparent materials, which is logical, but most of matte surfaces it scans good.
Of course, the objects from the scene above were scanned separately from many different angles. For the bread itself it was 61 shots from quality camera. ;)
Here is my submission. most people went for the standard baked goods, so i chose to do something a little more personal to my culture

sorry, i dont know why it posted it twice
Looks delicious! What is inside of it?
"phulka roti" (flat bread, a staple food in Indian subcontinent). It is bloated with steam during the roasting.
The rendering is so good, I can almost feel the steam escaping!
Of course, it can be made with infinite variety of fillings, mostly veg. (Unlike the pita bread pockets, these fillings are placed inside the dough and then rolled out, and then roasted on the griddle.)
So I feel like I'm a little late to my own party here, but there's nothing like making the deadline with 2 minutes to spare! So here we go, I give you...."Opening Shop"
Wow ! Really impressive. A lot of details and great composition. A clever use of procedural bricks too.
Thanks :) I try to use procedural textures for as many things as I can. There really is a lot that you can do with them.
