Sebastian "bashi" Röthlisberger has released his personal library of Cycles and Compositor NodeGroups - you'll find 70 useful nodes here! The nodes have been released into the Public Domain, so you can use them in any way you see fit.
Sebastian writes:
Here is my hand picked selection of NodeGroups i’ve created over the past 2-3 years. There’s everything, from simple little Tools, Materials, UberShaders to Compositing. Some are made quickly, on some i spent countless hours.
With this first release i’ve put together some information about every NodeGroup. Not too much, but mainly what the NodeGroup is supposed to do. I think it’s important to get a quick start on them, cause really, some of them might seem confusing (even for me ;-) by just looking at it.
I’ve taken quite some time to re-check everything, set usable and good defaults and to make them as easy as possible.
All of those NodeGroups are made by me, with the exception of the CondFresnel in the Metal-Kn.
I always try to not let them break energy conservation – so they should be safe to use in any circumstances.
My future plan is to pick some of them and explain in detail what they are doing. And this is where i need your support. Since this all takes a lot of work, and there are so many NodeGroups to choose from, i need you to tell me, about which NodeGroup/s you want to know more, please leave a comment bellow.
I honestly hope you enjoy them, learn from them, use them and show us the results here. If you have ideas for further NodeGroups or any questions, please let me know.
Lastly, it really takes a lot of time doing this, so if you find them useful please consider a donation.

Wouldn’t it be nice if we could insert comments into node layouts. After all, they’re pretty much like a programming language, and as a seasoned programmer, I have learned to appreciate the importance of comments.
Thats very true. Currently we can abuse the frame Node for this, but having some sort of dedicated commenting "thing" in Node Setups would be really really handy.
I think all you would need is a node type with no terminals, just containing an editable text field. The node execution system would simply ignore these. Then you can position them where you like, within a group, next to some tricky interconnections to explain what’s going on, etc.
First THANKS! There are incredibly neat ideas developed in these nodegroups covering all the needs one may have!
I've been following some of these on BA it's great that you went on to polish and make them available to all. This is a great news!
It's like having a new blender release on it's own. It'll take long time to study them all.
Good job!
Sebastian, thanks a lot for this pack. In particular for noise-reduction stuff.
Thanks a LOT!!!
Instead of having to use the "Link" or "Append" function, the developers should just add a folder where you can save your your node groups ( same way as you already have folders for textures, sounds, ....).
Good one!
Add this to that: add a check-box for user to have node setups shared to a common cloud for anyone to access from their Blender client program.
Thanks a million Sebastian! This is amazing!
Cheers!
This is really useful! Thanks mate for sharing this.
Great stuff! Thanks a lot for sharing this!
