blender_logo_shinyBlender 2.68 is in BCon4 now (bugfixing only), and the first Summer of Code reports are starting to come in.

Ton Roosendaal writes:

Hi all,

Here's the notes from today's meeting in irc.freenode.net, #blendercoders

1) Upcoming Blender 2.68 release status

  • Bug tracker has 150 bugs... but a lot of reports are more about smaller feature fixes, no big showstoppers found yet. Brecht van Lommel and Campbell Barton will focus on bug tracker all week.
  • Meeting agrees on moving to "BCon4" now (bug fix only period). We also will extend this period to two full weeks at least.
  • Around thursday, a call for a first Release Candidate can happen, which should be better advertised this time (like be linked on download page).
  • Call for logs!
  • Campbell Barton added another feature for "Python Security". You now can mark a directory (or multiple) to default loading "Not trusted" Blender files, allowing the rest of your file system to have .blends with autorun scripts. (Still needs to be added to release log)
  • Splash: As planned, we'll ask the Tube Open Movie team to provide one. Next time they can appoint new judges again who can pick from public portfolios or do a blenderartists.org contest.

2) Google Summer of Code

Thanks,

-Ton-

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.
