I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

Great tutorial. Thanks. That cleared up a lot of things. Im still having an issue where I have a model with an arm bent at the elbow, wearing a jacket and a bandolier and edges that shouldnt be rendered are. Example: The outline of the figures body is being rendered "under" the jacket. As is the curving arc of the bandolier around the far side of the jacket.
I have an image posted here: https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-2MJCZsb95VE/UZN1lh7RFPI/AAAAAAAAHTk/2h06EPT_Apo/w802-h598-no/freestyle.png

Any ideas why this is happening?

    • I can't completely tell whats going on, but there are a few things I did notice:
      1) Your creases will not render because you have the crease angle at 0
      2) When rendering with a silhouette, it will draw a line inside major curves.
      3) If your jacket is an open border(i.e. 1 vertex thick), you might have some normal issues.

        Well Ive increased the crease.

Ive turned off silhouette and used only Contour, Ive added thickness to all garments via the solidify modifier, Ive hid all garments except the shorts and still no joy. The lines that shouldnt be visible are still being rendered

  2. is it possible to turn the output to a black and white svg? because i tried doing that with blender internal back in the day and failed miserably.

if someone was successful, can you post briefly the steps you did?

    thanks

Anybody got a successful render from the aircraft blueprint example in the documentation wiki page? It keeps crashing for me.

    • I did, I made the file (but not the model). It is very heavy, needs 8GB of RAM to render (FS uses memory outside Blender to calculation lines). My rendertime is around 1m30s.
