Sadly, seems everybody is missing one of the more important features added in 2.66, the "Mesh Cache" modifier; this will give the possibility to export and import animations and simulations from and to external softwares.
In short, the true reason Blender could be introduced in the work-flow pipeline of the studios using commercial packages.
You are right, The mesh Cash Modifier is one of the best tools wich comes with the current Build i use it every day. To connect other Software to Blender. Thats heavy important to break through into big studios because the are all working with different packages.I hope the Alembic Support will be integrated in the next versions, its very important. Without Alembic no way to Hollywood they are working alot with that connection....But dont want to flame.. Blender is a wonderfull piece of software so far.... bb Happpy Blending.
er... i work for "hollywood" while alembic is a great idea, actually implementing it in companies Pipeline takes alot of time. we use it for a few small tasks, but mostly still using OBJ's
i use blender for mesh editing, purely because i am faster in blender than maya.
Just adding Alembic support will not intergrate blender into a "hollywood" pipeline, It really comes down to the artists in the company... i started with blender and then moved on to maya... so say 90% of my work is maya,
Hey, thanks for pointing out. Almost didn't notice it. A great feature indeed.
And there is another heavy problem , in all versions i've downloaded of Blender 2.66. 64bit There is no Ridgid Body "Bullet Contraint Tools" Shelf like in the Video. So it seems quite impossible to do that what he does in the video. is that a bug??? or it is not in the current build?.
Bullet Constraints Tools .. I dunno about the video, but, me, I downloaded the Constraints Tools and installed it as an add-on. Download, move the python file into the blender addons folder. Install it from User Preferences window .. -Addons-install from file button .. Then it appears as an Object addon in the addon list. Enable it as you would any addon. Then it appears in shelf..
Can find it here: http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?275823-WIP-Bullet-Constraints-Tools-0-3-7
also nice: the video overview from cgcookie: http://cgcookie.com/blender/cgc-series/overview-blender-266/
The only thing that needs blender is new animation features, (retargeting, animation layers)...if only animation layers appears in future releases, finally im going to use exclusively blender for my game production pipeline. (and if sculpting/viewport performance increases too...I can leave mudbox or even Zbrush.
Blender is becoming so awesome that i can't understand how it's possible...for me it's a dream come true.
