[non-Blender] Meshmixer 8 Released

5

Meshmixer is one of the more interesting free (although not open source) 3D apps.

Meshmixer writes:

meshmixer08 is now available for free download, with lots of new toys, including FaceGroup support, a new polygon Stamping tool, an Attract-to-Target brush, improved Booleans, Joins, and PlaneCut, a quick Align tool, more Brush controls (flow, hold boundary, restrict to group etc), better Transform Widgets, and lots of other UI enhancements.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

    • I think maybe MeshMixer now (in it's current state, get me right, please) is a very good way to invite new users to Blender Community. It's much easier... looks just like a toy. And starting from toys and games the new beginning should be :)

  1. I just recently got interested in Meshmixer since I have been experimenting with a Makerbot 3D printer. It looks like it has some neat features for hobbyists and more advanced users.

  2. Ok, some features look like they could be interesting... but for me personally, overall not compelling enough to start messing around with it. If those features could somehow make it to Blender... that would be great of course.
