Call for Content: SIGGRAPH 2011

3

The Blender Foundation is asking for YOUR help in creating a promotional tutorial/artwork package for SIGGRAPH 2011. They're in a hurry, so please reply quickly!

Tony Mullen writes:

Hi Everybody,

I'm writing on behalf of Ton and the Blender Foundation to request tutorial content and artwork for an upcoming short publication promoting Blender 2.5. It will be available as free download on blender.org, and ideally it will also be printed and distributed at SIGGRAPH 2011.

This request went out to a number of mailing lists already, but we've had a hard time getting sufficient submissions. There are a few tutorials we have already received, but we need more.

The guidelines for what we want are simple. Artwork should be high quality and available at at least 2000 pixels in the long dimension (higher is also welcome) in order to be printed large.

Tutorials should be 2 to 3 pages long and should cover Blender 2.5 functionality, with a focus on showing off nice looking effects and features. The target audience is made up of people who have 3D experience (either in other software or in Blender 2.4) but who are new to Blender 2.5. Any screenshots that need to be annotated should also be provided in their raw form. Screenshots, text, and guidelines for annotation of the screenshots is all we need. All graphic design will be arranged for on our side. For tutorials, please send me a proposal first.

Material may be recycled. It's no problem if the same material has already been made available in another format or in the same format elsewhere. However, whatever you submit must be licensed CC-attribution. If you have a service, website, or product you'd like to promote, that's no problem. We're happy to include a mention.

We're hoping to receive some high-quality work to choose from, in order to really make an impressive promotional package for SIGGRAPH. If you think your work can help us do that, please be sure to get in touch.

Unfortunately, we're running very late in making this public call for content, so the deadline for whatever you can provide is basically ASAP. At this point, we mostly hope to receive work that people have already completed.

Please mail me with any submissions, proposals, or questions at [email protected].

Thanks!

Tony Mullen

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. Just give me about 10 years to get good and I will be ready. Ive only been using Blender for about 5-6 months lol. Joking aside I hope you guys get some good work:)

  2. @Evan: +1

Yeah, regarding to the amount of work needed, it's a bit to late, hope they'll get what they want.
Next time diffusing the news long time before the event date would be a good thing. ;-)
    Long life to Blender !

  3. Just to clarify, this isn't a video. This is for a PRINT publication (also to be made available as a free download). So we need still, high resolution renders and/or written tutorials.
