This movie is the first part of a series that shows circular historical buildings from all over the world. They have to be exact as possible in their shapes and dimensions to show their specific capabilities.
In the case of Stonehenge I had infos about every single stone. Their exact shape, size and position was created first in AutoCad and then transfered into Blender. The landscape came from a land surveyor. I took the file into Autodesk Revit to create the mesh - and then up to Blender as usual...
You will find lots of poor things in the movie - but its my first one and the next (about the Marmaria in Delphi) will be better - hopefully...
As an architect I am using Blender to visualize my project.
Maybe not the greatest video in terms of graphical quality, but I found that I greatly enjoyed watching it. I hope you will, too!

Wow this is impressive. I like the textures and the transition to day :)
Reminds me of a tutorial I did a long time ago... :)
Except much more in depth.
The animation is good (though the transitions seem to replicate). But what about the sound track? I guess, it's a German trying to speak English.
Well done.
I really liked this work.
did you know some think Stonehenge was a crematorium ?
The sound track was fair enough for me, but it could use some more noise-fixing, but the speaker spoke understandingly enough. The animations were nice, both the movement and material animations, Goes well in a scientific video.
@Omar: come on, "trying to speak english"? it is not that bad! but then again, i am german too, so who am i to judge? ;-)
the animation is awesome and it looks very good and professional. very interesting to watch and also very informative.
but i must say, Omar has a point here, because somehow it would be even better if the text would be spoken by a native speaker. i mean, i know from my own experience that it is very hard to get rid of that german accent. *sigh* - sometimes i wish the german accent would sound as nice and sexy as english with spanish accent... :-)
I think a accent is nothing to worry about !
Soundtrack ?!?!?! ... did you ever try to get (also with an good microphone ) in an normal bureau environment
an nice sound ? Not easy.
This animation was done well - the texture of the stones let me remind a special ice sort!
The explanation was done well and shows that people a long time ago had a high level of knowhow.
(...without Internet,PC and so on !!!!)
Alot of hard work here! Well done! And seeing as I lived near Stonehenge for a long time, this was very interesting to me!
Thank you!
Sorry guys and specially Andreas. I didn't mean to be rude. I really liked the animation and the modeling. Tut mir leid Andreas, war nicht so gemeint.
The animation is really good and professional, especially for this kind of video. Also graphically, it's really convincing.
@ sebastian_k: Of course, a native speaker would have been better, but still I think a Spanish accent would be much worse with this kind of scientific video. German sounds much more reassuring :)
Many thanks for sharing your work, Andreas. Enjoyable and very effective!
You are too modest! This is excellent and could easily feature in a TV programme.
Your next animation challenge is to show how they got the enormous stones to the site, and how they managed to build it ;-)
great work!!
it's a great idea to reconstruct historical buildings in blender...
Very good animation. The voice is perfectly understandable (I'm French). There is just a whistle on the soundtrack that could have been avoided with a better microphone, but the whole movie is very well done, and interesting.
Congratulations.
It has more information than any Discovery Channel program I have seen about this subject. I liked the transition of the place into Winter.
Very impressive video!

Very well done, especially for a first movie, and very interesting. I didn't know most of the details I learned about Stonehenge today. Thank you! :)
Looking forward to the next one.
As for the quality of the graphics - I could easily imagine seeing something like this on TV. It doesn't need to be super photorealistic to be entertaining and educating well.
Of course a "BBC narrator" voice would have been better, but this is perfectly understandable.
I also think that more realistic materials would have been nice, but again the shapes and positions of stones are clear.
Interesting video :-)
perfect for its goal
too realistic rendering is beautiful but distracting too
this is a good compromise between a sketch and 3d art
Thank you so much. As an amatuer astronomer and a Blenderhead, this was like apple pie with icecream on top! I am dizzy from the sugar high. I will be going to the Bays Mountain Astromony Club tonight and will tell all about it. Thanks for such a beautiful and educational video.
Excellent documentary, thank you very much for sharing!
I liked it :) Looking forward to more similar vids.
I found the work just excellent! Even graphically, contrarily to what andreas says. The night lighting is very nice (especially on the last shots). Maybe in the next one try to use more ambient occlusion in the day shots, that could give you interesting results.
That was cool!
I rarely watch all of an 8+ min. video on the web, but this one kept my interest easily all the way through. I will likely come back to see it again before long. Exceptional!
This is very informative video. Stonehenge story is impressive. Good work.
Really well done - you should get together with the guy that did this reconstruction .....

Excellent job! This has all the markings of the roots for another DaVinci code thriller, as we discover the meaning of that last mystery stone. Great story telling.
This is fantastic, you should check out our own virtual Stonehenge progress at Heritage Key!
