Project Durian has kicked off this weekend with a week-long meeting of all the team members (except for Campbell Barton). Last night I met them all during dinner in Amsterdam and shot this short movie in which they all introduce themselves (more info on the team on the Durian blog). As a bonus, Ton will be giving away the first details of the plot! (In addition to few other, not-so-shocking details ;-)
PS: yes, I skipped someone - Angela's husband. That was rather rude of me - terribly sorry!

sweet! Looking forward to seeing more of this project!!
vaya; y yo sin haber desayunado :(
bueno; esto se esta poniendo bueno :)
saludos...
This is exciting! I can't wait to see this thing come together. It's great that they're planning everything out ahead of time. I think that will make this film a 100 times stronger.
Great! Feels like sitting around the campfire with those guys :).
Thank you Bart!
I'm gonna *glee* like alil' girl now, *Glllleeeeeeeeeee*
awesome! :)
the is the real deal folks
For the love of god, don't underestimate the importance of writing and character development. Blender Institute films have exceled at so much but poor / cliche writing has taken its toll and undermined the storytelling.
oh the irony... "exceled"...
Hehe I see Ben is the one paying the diner :P
And so it begins...
^_^
Great to see the team! So excited for the end product.
Nice supper!
Can't wait to see progresses.
...and to know something more about Brecht's top-secret coding...
OH NO, NO! NO PLEASE, TELL US A CLUE OF THE BRETCH SECRET CODING PROYECT.
PLEASE, I BEG YOU ALL, IN GOD SAKE PLEASE.
LOL Lee from Australia totally reminds me of the German ChildrenTv-presenter Willi Weitzel .
hahaha...Ton's voice is like king leonidas of "300".
fantastic team...i guess
I hope the team takes the script seriously.
We have a Abraham Lincoln as 3D generalist!!!!!!! hope he don't get the same destiny
what a nice set of artists and techies :)
it seems they really having fun workin on this ..at least on the dinner party held there,
this is a great team of people with extraordinary skill and passion!
Too bad that Brecht keeps his stuff secret but on the other hand who wouldnt like a surprise after all.
Best wishes to everyone on the team and thanks for all the effort,
also for doing this interview and posting it here!
I wonder is Durian gonna have blood/gore effects since it action oriented or is it gonna be PG-13
Heya to Angela from Montreal. Make us proud :).
I hope this is a great experience for all of you guys. Best of luck !
good luck!
Couldn't agree more, hippo_head. Already struggling to change people's perceptions in this regard-- solid writing is absolutely paramount. Currently the screenwriting stage is undervalued... all I'll say for now. :)
You know what could be really interesting? An all-star voice cast.

I bet this guy would do it for free to advertise.
Actually, scratch that, seems he isn't exactly challenged for work and it could be kind of lame anyways.
It could raise interesting questions about voices and trademarks though.
....thats the last dinner by daylight outside the cave till they have finished the project!!
Cool team - have fun and make us proud!
Great team! I 'm very exicted by project Durian. Colin, The french and other, you're great!
Good luck!
:D what a friendly atmosphere...
good luck guys..
Were they having the blender special for dinner?
Talented & Lucky people! ;)
I have a good feeling about this!
Awesome team, can't wait to see what they'll cook!
:D
Four score and seven years ago we animated in the dirt. Much easier now.
On a more serious note - we discussed gore level a bit today and while we reserve the right to change, we think at this point that PG-13 is a reasonable benchmark for gore and blood levels. One of the main reasons was to keep it accessible to a broad audience, allow for it to be viewed in some schools as a learning tool and so on.
Some Kill Bill was certainly watched today though. Early days for such decisions.
Awesome team! I've pre-ordered, and I'm looking forward to seeing that all this talent will bring to the table.
you guys got my vote and pre-order, and I know of at least one particular person on BA that is going to be very excited to hear there will be a Dragon...
I would like to know what the 'very humours story' was...
I overheard someone saying 'there's a very humours story about that...'
