BS Exporter for Blender 1.2.1

The BS Exporter for Blender transforms Blender into a complete authoring application for quality Web3D content using the extensions of BS Contact VRML/X3D. It exports to both the XML and VRML Classic encodings of the X3D Standard. Version 1.2.1 was recently released.

Bart (the other one!) wrote:

The feature rich VRML/X3D exporter "BS Exporter for Blender" is released as version 1.2.1. Besides its support for procedural textures, mesh animations ans speed improvements it is now tested an Windows and Ubuntu Linux (and should run on Mac too).

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. Lol, I just noticed yesterday that the x3d exporter on 2.48 gives some normals errors, and is ok with prvious releases.

I'll look if this one is correct with 2.48 ...

  2. Yes, I've also noticed issues with Blender 2.47.
I am using the BS Exporter at work a lot, but the new version doesn't work with 2.48(a) at all and with 2.47 there's an error when exporting normals.
Another downside is, that parent-child relationships aren't exported correctly.

That's really a pitty, because the new version of the exporter works much faster now and delivers nice VRML-Code, but they definetly need to iron out that parenting error.

    Thanks for yor feedback!

  4. @Bart:

I just mailed you some files. I'd be happy to hear from further improvements.

Maybe VRML isn't used that much in the Game Industrie nowadays, but there are still many fields where it is used in a productive environment. For example in product-presentation, it's an easy to use and edit format.

  5. I've been looking into web3d stuff since this post came out and im still not sure on a few things, maybe someone can clear it up. Do i need a third party app like Shout3D to make this work or can i basically go from blender straight to web.

  6. if you want to use VRML inside web sites try wirefusion there is a free edition on thier website but it takes some finding. You can use your VRML models and save them as web pages

  7. Judging by the work on the forum, wouldn't all the exporters be BS exporters?

I'm kidding, don't start crying about it. It's great to see interoperability between programs so thanks for the effort.
