Sacha recently wrote an amusing post on the Peach blog. Written as a 'letter' for his mother, its a great read. Sacha even introduces a new and amusing Peach character.
My favorite part from the post:
Since I mentioned birds… did I tell you about a pigeon pooping on my head some time ago, just outside the studio? Guess what, few weeks later same thing happened to Enrico! haha, same place!…. same pigeon perhaps?? You should've seen him, acting like it was the most disgusting thing ever. it's amazing what a little birdpoop can do with a man. :)

Its so Cute!
Go peach team. :)
Anything that brings inspiration is a good thing ;-p
How did you react then Sacha, like nothing happened? Just walking around with bird poo on yer head, lol
A very nice character, but it does resemble the bird characters in 'For the Birds' from Pixar a bit. Put two birds-legs under it's chin and remove the body and they're almost equal.
Maybe the resemblance goes away when it's animated... Nice job though, I couldn't render that.
Ted, you don't have so much ways to do a bird. It's still a bird and birds look like birds.
Anyway, the bird is made after Nathan, everybody can read that on the peach blog.
Nicely put greatSuccess.
I couldn't help but make a small assumption of similarity when I first saw the character. You must admit though that the beak and the eyes are quite close to some pixar likeness. All good in my opinion though! his feathers look awesome!
Looking really cool. Great work guys!
I had a look at a still of Pixar's "for the birds" and I have to admit that the beak and some other parts really get close to a duplicate.
That's one of the wackiest, silliest, cutest bird I've ever seen, and it's awesome!
Okay, as long as this one isn't regurgitating bloody worms. I have been reluctant to support Peach because of all the Student Gloom in Elephant's Dream. If it's an actually cute movie, maybe I can support this one.
Cool! Not only the bird but the tree is nice as well. ;)
@Ted: I think you're right. But with one exception: On the Blender-Bird I don't see a feather-system. Looks like it's only texture!
Unfortunately the artists of Plumiferos copy nearly all characters too!
Hey Blender-Guys, be individual!!
elite: they wouldn't have time to do a feather system and honestly: you don't need it in Peach, textures are good enough for this side chararcter. For plumiferos: yes because the main chars are birds but here? Nah...
it actually IS a complete feather system which was exclusively coded for this by our coding master Brecht (works like a charm). you'll see that in the HD version...
Is the feather system an extension of the fur/hair system? Or is this something separate? And is it in SVN? :)
It does look very much like the characters from Pixars For the Birds short movie. But aside from that.. I'm very excited about all the new functionality being developed both for the Peach Blender release and for 2.50.
Great looking bird and tree.
(How did you do the clouds anyway? New system with a SSS twist?)
the body feathers are basically a baked particle system with object duplicators that has been combed and tweaked by hand manually. the wing feathers are made with dupli face objects and masterfully rigged by Nathan... i could possibly make a more detailed blog post about this as soon as i can find the time...
the clouds are an animated 3D matte painting created in gimp and mapped into a sky dome scene in blender, nothing overly fancy.
the similarity with pixar's birds, probably pure coincidence.
.andy
Wow great Andy, that's really neat.
Same question like ToastBusters: extension of the fur code?
That bird looks like it's doing to be a great character!
hahaha - I've been there guys .. poop on head thing.
And the new character looks pretty slick. I'm really REALLY impressed with the quality you're all pulling out of Blender for this .. it really shows the strength in Blender. I can't wait to see this finished film.
I don't think it looks much like a bird from pixar's "for the birds". I actually think this bird looks better, just look at the beak - it looks much better!
Awesome character, great pixar feel to it. Cant wait to see the finished film.
Good lord - that's an awesome bird. I'm looking forward to the finished product!
woah... that's neat!
who cares if it "looks too much like pixar" ?!
anyways, it's should be taken as a complement that it looks pixarish :D
(eg: you painting looks too much like a Davinci! ) :p
great job!
btw, how did they do the eyes (especially the iris)?
it looks like it's deformed by a lattice (or could that be the new mesh deform everyone is talking about?)
anyways, when this project is completed...
I'm expecting an eye/character tutorial :p
