I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. Wow, the last version I used was 0.5. This is a big leap forward in terms of usability. Love the new exporter and the automatic launch of the indigo renderer!

  2. that's a slow message xD

there already is version 1.0.1, which comes with some nice additional features.
The main problem with that release is:
0.9 comes for both Windows and Linux in both 32 and 64 bit
1.0.1 only is available for Win32 and for Linux 64 bit...

mpl's link guide is for linux with wine...
0.9 and 1.0.1 should both run without wine (except, 1.0.1 with Linux 32 bit)

For mac, you'll need wine, though ;)

When i try to Install the "Blendigo_v09.exe" i have this Setup error message(Blender seems to be not Installed!)
    Blender 2.45 already Intalled!...whats wrong!
    How can Install Blendigo v09.exe
    some help..!?

  4. Didn't know it can render displacement maps via the displacement modifier.
Since when is that possible??? Em any links for a skin (sss) shader?

  5. Vassilios:
What does the error message say? You don't need Blender to run Indigo, so, that shouldn't be a problem in any way.
Check blendigo's path setthings - you need to correctly set the path to set it
    Akeksander:
Blendigo exactly exports the geometry, you get, from your modifiers, directly on your screen.
You'll use the displacement modifier... With that, it will work, no matter, what you do ;)

Subsurf also works, but only the level, you see on screen.
If you set your render level to 6 and your preview level to 1, it'll get exported with subsurf 1 ;)

  6. Sigh, wish it ran on a Mac (and no I have a PPC Mac.) Indigo looks like a nice alternative engine if it were widely available like Blender is.

  7. It *does* run on macs, however, you need to use wine for that.
If you can't get it working with mpl's linked introduction (which are for linux, so, there might be differences to macs...) , log in and ask in the forums ;)

The link, I posted, was supposed to link directly to search results for "skin" - that didn't work, so, simply search for "skin" on your own, Aleksander ;)

  8. Good news.

I have also the same message : Blender not installed, but I haven't yet installed the new Indigo release, so it may work...

Recently, I tried LuxRender, and I haven't undestood what is a PORTAL.

The new indigo release is supposed to use it. What is it?

Can someone enlight me on this point ? Thanks in advance.

  9. portal? you mean exit portal, I guess...
It forces light to only go through it.
    In direction of the normal
It's supposed to be used with bidirectional rendering and you should use it for rooms. every window should be covered with it.
Be careful: geometry behind it will get ignored ;) So, if you have exterior setting, seen through a window, you shouldn't use'em
they're for making things faster, as they will ignore many light paths before those even started :)

  10. The BN effect is really incredible!
constantly between 70 and 100 guests online! xD
And sometimes, the site suddenly is off or very very slow.

Btw, I found, that there is a version 1.0.2 (+ the update 1.0.2_2) available, now - currently Windows only...
you can find all the versions here:
    stable releases: http://www.indigorenderer.com/joomla/index.php?option=com_docman&task=cat_view&gid=19&Itemid=62
betas (last view betas where stable, themselves already with one or two exceptions, so, it should be save to use them) http://www.indigorenderer.com/joomla/index.php?option=com_docman&task=cat_view&gid=21&Itemid=62
be sure, to either get 0.9.10 (stable) for Linux and Windows , or 1.0.1 for Linux 64bit and Windows 32bit, if available, or 1.0.2_2 for Windows 32bit only only, and if you use wine, also for Linux and Mac (mpl's link)

  11. as always it gets a resounding 'bleh' from me. no sharing of knowlege and destinted to either jump int o the world of 'pay for this or die' or get 'no we arn't dead!' news posts 6 months before all activity stops altogether (and of course suffers code rot eventually being a huge chore to get anything to work nicely with it).

  12. ??? What do you mean?
There is a new release between every week (usually bug fixes) or every month ;)
    It's quite active, actually.
Sometimes, there are some wind-still phases, but they usually stop, as soon as a new user, who's intention it really is to be an active member - and suddenly the forums bloom, again :)

  13. I'll wait for textured sss and normal maps suport.
Must say it's getting more and more digestible!
    Keep up the great work!
