This July will be the 5th Anniversary of YafRay and they want you to make a commemorative render for this anniversary.
A little bit of history:
In July 2002, a computer sciences student called Jandro started to code an open source raytracer called YafRay. Or maybe it was the first YafRay release and in fact coding started a bit earlier, while he was preparing his last semester's exams. The only things that we know for sure are that a) he was bored indeed :) and b) he was looking for an open source raytracer and found nothing.
Contest Rules:
- The render motif should be related to this anniversary in some way, through a metaphoric image for instance. Think about milestones in your life, about time, about light, about YafRay. Seek for inspiration. Wait to have a clear picture in your mind about what your render should look like.
- You can use either YafRay or Yaf(a)ray for rendering.
- The contest will end the 10th of July.
- You can, of course, post process and composite your render, but using only yafray/yafaray passes.
- Post your final renders in the following thread please:
YafRay Fifth Anniversary Contest forum thread
Prize:
The prize will be one book from the Blender Shop. The winner can choose between:
The Essential Blender, edited by Roland Hess
or,
Introducing Character Animation, by Tony Mullen.
The Winner will be selected by YafRay.org forum members.
Thank You in advance for participating!

Hi, there, this is incredible !!! I'm waiting for a new stable release of YafRay (that i like very much!) and nothing comin up...and the news is a contest about it !!!!
I can't believe that !!! i hope this contest will give to the devs the power to keep in work for the next release, a yaf or a yafa, as they like, i don't care !!!
anyway, maybe we should waiting a bit ? they coming back to work hard on the renderer...hope so !
Well done the team !!!
i'm confused. we just make any kind of picture but you have to use yafray? please correct me if im wrong
George,
You can make any picture you want, but the picture should be somehow related with this anniversary. For instance, the render could be a cell phone with a SMS in the display saying 'Congrats!'
That is an example, there are a lot of posibilities and more inspired than my example. Look for inspiration. And of course, It should be rendered with yafray or yafaray. Post process is allowed. You can also do compositing, but using only yafray/yafaray passes.
Samo
I'd enter, but I doubt I could make an entry worthy of even getting an honorable mention.
thanks samo, i'm definatly entering
do we HAVE to use yafray? or can we just regularly render it because i dot know how to use yafray. if we have to use yafray i will find out how to use it.
I believe that it says that you have to use Yafray (or Yafaray) right in the rules above.
I think its also ok to use the Kerkythea renderer, as long as its done with an external blender render ;P
...yafray only.
