Looking back on 2006

Plumiferos

Plumiferos is an Argentinian project that aims to produce a feature-length movie using Blender. They have been quietly working with their team of over 30 professionals and from what we’ve seen so far, this is going to be the most complex and beautiful Blender production so far.

They are supported by the Blender Foundation: Ton is helping them by fixing bugs and implementing new features on-line, and the Foundation sponsored them by flying Bassam and Andy to Buenos Aires for six weeks to let them share their experiences with Elephants Dream.

Blender 2.42

Blender 2.42 introduced a new render pipeline, node editors for materials and compositing, an improved sequence editor, vastly improved character animation tools and much, much more. Without a doubt it was the most influential and ground breaking Blender release ever (until 2.43? :-)

BlenderArt Magazine

I am very impressed by what the BlenderArt Magazine crew is doing: every two months they publish a very professionally produced Blender e-zine. Each issue dives into a specific topic which they cover thoroughly, with tutorials, interviews and artwork. Managing Editor Sandra Gilbert does an excellent job at managing the crew of now more than 30 contributors (I know how hard it is to keep everyone interested ;-) – I hope we’ll see many more BlenderArt issues!
