We have few announcements to make: we have two new team members, did a software upgrade on the site and I'll be away for a few weeks. Read on for the details!
New Team Members
First of all, I'd like to welcome two new crew-members: Mark and Brian. Mark was part of the Open Source Pavilion booth-crew at Siggraph where he made sure all our systems were running correctly. Brian is an illustrator with more than six years of experience in the field of 3D. It makes me proud that people are so willing to help and that our team is slowly growing :) Welcome, guys!
Security Upgrade
This week we performed a security upgrade on our WordPress installation. We had already disabled user registration because there was a known issue with it. User registration is now activated again. In order to be able to do this upgrade, we had to remove the 'Version Tracker' category from the homepage. This was hacked rather deep into the code. As there wasn't too much activity in the Tracker anymore we figured nobody would miss it.
Ironically enough, the security upgrade led to a problem with the comment form: it would show the name of the post's author instead of the name of the comment author. This issue was quickly reported on BlenderArtists.org and then on to me. The comments were logged under the correct name so there was no security issue, but it was solved within an hour. Next time there's something wrong with the site though - especially if you think there's an issue with security - PLEASE contact us first instead of posting it on a public forum.
Vacation!
Finally, I'll be leaving for two weeks of vacation tomorrow. I'm heading to the southern part of France (near Montelimar) and I'll be spending my time enjoying the French cuisine and wines, sleeping in, visiting 11th century castles, reading away the pile of detectives and SciFi books that has formed over the last few months and generally not worrying about BlenderNation :) Eugene will be managing the website during my absence and with the new BlenderNation team members I'm totally convinced that he'll be doing a great job. I did prepare a few posts in advance so don't be surprised if my name shows up!
That's it from me - unless I spot an internet cafe somewhere I'll see you all again in two weeks!
Have fun,
Bart

ah - now I know why the checkbox at the bottom of the comment form is screwed up - not quite as fixed as you thought eh?... (see my comment on the previous news article if you're still in the dark!)
anyway - yeah, enjoy your holiday... and don't worry too much about me hacking your site while you're gone lol... ;)
