Conference: Crystal Space Developer and User Meeting (Germany)

6

cryscon.pngThis summer (July 15-16th 2006) the Crystal Space team, together with the sponsers will hold the first ever Crystal Space Conference in Aaechen Germany.

From the conference site:

This is an excellent opportunity to meet several of the developers behind Crystal Space as well as users in person. You will be able to listen to talks about the making (so far) of CS and what it is capable of or just discuss your project in general. We will organize workshops and tutorial sessions too. And of course you can use the available time to talk to fellow developers and exchange techniques and information.

There are also a few sessions that deal with blend2crystal (a Blender python plugin that allows you to: export, import and run content for the CrystalSpace 3d engine, edit game properties for CEL, create full scripting games using cel python or xml).

And what is Crystal Space?

Crystal Space is a free (LGPL) and portable 3D Game Development Kit written in C++. It supports: true six degrees of freedom, colored lighting, lightmapped and stencil based lighting, shader support (CG, vertex programs, fragment programs, ...), mipmapping, portals, mirrors, alpha transparency, reflective surfaces, 3D sprites (frame based or with skeletal animation using cal3d animation library), procedural textures, particle systems, halos, volumetric fog, scripting (using Python, Perl, Java, or potentially other languages), 16-bit and 32-bit display support, OpenGL, and software renderer, font support (also with freetype), hierarchical transformations, physics plugin based on ODE.

Registration is required whether you are a speaker or just an attendee, and the registration deadline has been extended to June 15th. If you attend the conference and would like to report on it here at BlenderNation, please contact us!

  1. Ogres not a game engine - thats why it can be add straight to blender as they are attempting to do

crystal comes with a build in physics engin engine, they are working on a plugging in so it will run in blender as well. but most like ly will need to build before running.

  2. Yeah, Ogre is intended to be just a really good 3d engine with few frills, whereas Crystal Space has all sorts of game-related parts like CEL (The Crystal Entity Layer) to make it easier to write games with it.

So, no mention of CrystalBlend, eh? I've been waiting for news about that project, but it seems it's been on permanent hold for the past six months or so.

  3. i think crystal blenders is lacking some full time dev's, so most of the development remains on the actual engin :|

  4. It should be Aachen (double-A)..

So the registration fee is 10 €! For that you'll get two meals plus the cookies and drinks in between and t-shirt? Then they'd like to invest the remaining money into the project? Why not build a house with that money? No seriously: How will they finance the event itself?
