David Ward has just finished a great DVD. We wrote earlier about his detailed youtube series- its now complete, online and also available on DVD. Plus, just to add to it, hes even helping out the Blender Foundation!

DVD Description:
Twenty-Eight part series on the complete creation of a character in Blender, from a single polygon to a fully-rigged and textured character. Recorded using Blender 2.49. The tutorials are in WMV format, (each part equaling roughly 20 – 30 minutes) and best viewed with either Windows Media Player, or VLC Media Player. Also contains the final ".blend" file.

Uhm, not to be disrespectful or something, but judging from the cover the character is not well lit. Harsh light and multiple shadow casting spots makes the character looks tacky. I haven't watch the youtube tutorials so I don't know if that is representative.
I have watched the #19 about rigging a hand : Very well done and informative.

I've seen all the videos, it's an amazing, great work, well done, clear and comprehensible. This complete serie on creation of a character from A to Z is a must. Great job
really bad video format.
@ felix & bobq: i agree with the bad video format; however, it was the lowest size with the highest quality i could find (tho i didn't look REAL hard :P ). i needed each video to be as low a filesize as i could get, since i wanted to fit all onto a single dvd. all told, there's around 9 hours of video, so to have it at a reasonable viewing size, it had to have something that could compress it way down yet still retain decent quality. WMV was the best format i found. MOV and MPG were way too big, and FLV was too big plus had bad quality.
This was one of the best tutorials I had the expiernce of watching, so I will be buying it, thanks David
Dave, use h264. It's the best. Also use an ffmpeg based encoder, here's a nice frontend:

Dave – thanks again for putting these together. By far the most concise and easiest to understand tutorials of their kind. I even got used to (and sometimes even understood) the mumbling to yourself.
Just ordered my copy.
These tutorials are very indepth and extremely helpful in both anatomic and blender workflow matters, tho they need some experience with the general interface and modelling concepts.
As the size of the whole series suggests, I understand it as this is adressing users that are interested in a full scale display of the creation of a character in blender 3d,
but even for a complete rookie it wil provide tons of tricks and techniques on a multitude of modelling/ animation subjects.
Its defininetly a very ambititous, concise and complete guide to character design within blender.
+ its packed with nifty skills, enjoyable commentary and is made using the state of the art blender 2.49 release…
Of course this is my subjective impression but I wanted to emphasize that I enjoyed this alot:)

Never heard of lulu.com is this trustworthy, why can we not buy it within the blender shop?
@foff44: i experienced the same thing; i think their site was under maintenance at the time. should be good now.
@antonvdh: yeah lulu is trustworthy. i ordered a copy of it myself before i released it to the public, and i have my copy on my bookshelf as we speak. i didn't try to put it in the blender shop because honestly, i don't think it's quite the professional quality it would need to be for that :P

I got onto the web site, and have now bought and paid for the DVD, with the drop in price and the stronger Aussie dollar it was a good deal for me, now can't wait for the DVD to arrive…
I'm starting out your series on YouTube and am willing to pay the $13.50 in part because it's thoughtful and well done. I would like to know if you get clearer picture and more fps, (smoother motion) from the DVD however, 'cause that would make it even cooler!
@VidE: yeah, the resolution is higher (800×600), so you can actually read the menus and such. the first two videos will have the choppiness (as i didn't have my settings synced up correctly until the third) but they'll be clearer and larger as well.

Dave, I just ordered it, I'll tell you how it goes. Lulu's shipping policy is somewhat irritating as they won't gurantee it unless you pay $8.99 (or more) for shipping. I did. But that's 3/4 the price of the DVD itself. I guess for small lot sales like yours, (no offense), shipping is to be pricier. Oh well….
I have ordered on 7 oct still nothing received.

i had the same problem when using the "media player classic"; try using windows media player, or VLC media player. you should be able to hear it then
