By David Phipps.
This sculpt was inspired by The Hobbit's dwarves (perhaps not all too surprisingly) and a challenge from a friend. I use Blender almost exclusively outside of school much to my delight (my university professors don't like it used in the classroom) . I'd like to thank the Blender community for pushing me and keeping me motivated. A special thanks to Blender Nation for always providing excellent content.
Cheers,
-David

Nice. I'm very interested in how you got it to look like it was sculpted out of clay or stone.
I think much of the effect came from the three point lighting I used. The clay strips and crease brushes were really vital for getting most of this look. I could whip up a tutorial if you'd like.
A tutorial would be awesome, thank you. It's more the use of the brushes more than the lighting I'm wondering about. I've always wanted to use Blender to sculpt claymation-type things but they always look to polished. What you've done is exactly what I'm looking for.
Pretty cool! Claymation would be an interesting direction to take this for sure. Give me a few days to record something for you and I'll drop a link to it here.
Looking forward to this as well. I'd recommend sending it in to BlenderNation - I hope it makes the front page!
Yeah please do submit that (link is in the top navigation)!
Have a few big class assignments this week but it will be up and submitted!
Hi, you haven't forgotten about this, have you? I was really looking forward to it.
I haven't! Sorry! Things in my personal life have been a bit turbulent but are working out. I'll be putting it up soon. Thanks for the reminder though. It is encouraging to have a bit of eustress.
Oh, its OK. Life gets in the way sometimes. I'm just happy you're still willing to do it.
Sorry for being so "grabby-hands", its just that this look is exactly what I've been wanting.
I can't wait. I'm sure a lot of people will benefit from it.
