Looks like BMesh will make modeling much easier and intuitive, nice demo video!

  2. 2 EagleWing

WOW! this is soo COOL! I’m going to have to really get into modeling when 2.5 comes out! What beta release is Bmesh included?

  3. 3 ronbravo

    Drool….

Thank you to the developers of Bmesh. This is soooo exciting. This gives Blender even more of a move towards being able to address all the needs of artists and developers. Thank you for all your hard work. It is appreciated.

Also thanks to the guy who made the video. I love the accent. And the burp at time index 7:01. This was great.

On a side note, the Blender interface for 2.5 is beautiful. Man it just really looks nice. So many people are putting so much effort into this project. It’s is amazing to see it develop.

  4. 4 The Oblivious Prattler

This is incredible! I can’t wait to use this! 2.5 is going to be the best version yet!

  5. 5 Trager

When can I have this!!??? Finally Blender will be able to replace all of the other 3D programs I have to use for ngons and such… Plus it should make scripting for more advanced tools easier for us novice programmers. Can’t wait for a stable build, you devs are doing a great job!!

BTW Props to the dude in the video for the voracious belch!! Awesome.

  6. 6 ByronK

Michael, this is a great explanation! Thanks so much. It looks like we will be given another great new tool to experiment with when we get B Meshes.

  7. 7 Thomas

You can always download a build from http://graphicall.org/ But there are still a few issues to work out. :) It’ll take a bit getting used to for me though.

    Dictator HTB to the rescue!
    Pronounciation!

    En gons
    En like ‘N’
    and gon as in polygon

    Ngons = EnGons

I’m a natural dictator/communist/emperor so it is, cause I say, it is!
my subjects you may proceed to say it correctly! ;-)

    very nice tool !

about the interface : even at the little size of the video the size of buttons look nearly just good, so in the real size of the interface they are very very to much big :)

    sorry my english

  10. 10 U-238

That’s really slick. Looking forward to working with this when 2.50 comes out. :)

  11. 11 Jacob Valenta

I’M AMAZED. no more triangles while subdividing :) and dissolving things
those are probably the most useful to me

  12. 12 melon

a BURP MODE is a very handy, nice addition to this tool… :) But you have to watch a least 7,5 minutes to know what I mean …

  13. 13 Code

    very improfessional burp.

  14. 14 GGentzel

I”m really glad this video was only 14 minutes long. I’m not sure if my heart could have taken much more.

  15. 15 Xero

OMG! Bmesh! It’s it’s like magic! I want this soooooooo bad…

  16. 16 NeptuneKid

Very cool. I’m just a little confused if this will be in 2.5 standard version or if this is an extended version that will have to be downloaded elsewhere like graphicall?

  17. 17 Afief

    Yes!
Finally I’ll be able to do complex architecture in blender without having to worry about zillions of polygons whenever I have a round window!!!

All professional 3d packages I know have had this feature for ages, about time blender gets it!

I have one question though: How will Edge Loops work now? ctrl+R creates a new edge loop, but I see no way in hell it’s gonna work when a face with 10 vertexes gets in the way.

  18. 18 Darrin

    Nice burp!!!

  19. 19 johnj

if you can model while burping it’s clear that blender is now even more powerful and easy ;-)
    now i have 2 questions
    1. is there any application so powerful as blender is in poligonal modeling?
    2.what about the new nurbs?
    bye

  20. 20 Manga Gothic Media

Wow this is going to make things so much easier

  21. 21 e

looks like everyone is going to give you shit for burping…

  22. 22 Robo3Dguy

    One thing to say:

    Bmesh rocks.

    All thanks to the devs!

  23. 23 iuli

    wow…. that’s so amazing :D

    I can’t wait to see 2.5 version…when is gonna be release ?

  24. 24 bob2

    That’s fantastic.
I’d like to see a preview of new cutting tools.

  25. 25 Olaf

Brilliant! This B-Mesh code is solving a lot of problems, including tessalation and ability to dissolve in a logical manner. Blender should have had this a long time ago, but I’m very glad it’s finally here!

    Great job!

  26. 26 Sorbus

    +1 for the burp

  27. 27 vykelt

ever since i heard about bmesh, i’ve been holding my breath till its release. it’s looking soooo sweet. Thank you joe and everyone else for the hard work and thank you michael for the awesome preview. P.S. I think the burp was at least a +3, for artistic accomplishment.

  28. 28 BlendNmix

I like the way how he insists to the fact that this is not the goal of Bmesh to have npolygons in a final model.
Blendies are often making the mistake.

    Thank you for this.

    Go for nurbs now :)

  29. 29 Charon

B stand for Burping, you’re a funny man!

  30. 30 MDxm

Holy fraggins, that is great. Oh and nice burp out of nowhere there BTW.
Wish I had cash left to donate after vacation.

  31. 31 tmr232

That is sooo cool! Having excess to this from Python is such a huge leap compared to any previous version of Blender!!! Not having to work out everything on your own in Python is just fantastic! I love 2.5!

  32. 32 Mfoxdogg

Thank you all for your kind and wonderful comments, its because of all of you that i make these :)

    once again thank you

  33. 33 AniCator

2.5 rocks!!!! I wonder if the conference computers will have 2.5 installed or 2.49b. :P

  34. 34 Benjamin Kay (formerly hitechboy722 / HTB)

The learning curve is quite steep, understanding how Bmesh works takes quite some concentration.

I just made a filled circle, dissolved the central vert, selected 9 conected(loop) verts round the outside (four verts from each side of the Y axis and one on the axis) and then extruded them along the Z axis. The result is much different to what you expect, because you assume it will be like playing with a lattice modifier on the shape when in fact you notice theres no slopes!
In other words you assume that verts on opposite sides of circle are connected, but infact the verts are only connected to those around them…

    It’s getting crazy but fun…

Hope fully at some point there will be some documentation to brief over the behavior of Bmesh, but it may be that i’m lazy and dint bother searching ;-)

  35. 35 ghuck

This is going to be really nice, I would ask to add to the menu, an option to take the selected face and move the vertices into a circle. This would cut down so much time in making perfice circles in a mesh the old way.

Blender keeps getting better, and better.

  36. 36 Reaction

What I wanted to see is how these n-gons render out…. for example at exactly 9:00 into the video, he uses dissolve and creates a multi-sided polygon where some of the verts (i.e. the 5 at the base of the little steeple) are not in the same plane as the other 4. In 2.49b, if you create a four sided polygon and move one of the vertices out-of-plane, it doesn’ t look very good in the render!
