Reynante Martinez captured his favorite personal tool in this image.

Inspired by the great thinkers of all time, by the hardworking individuals, and by the art of creating itself.

I've been meaning to recreate one of my most functional personal tools for as long as I can remember and one day there came this spur of inspiration to get it done, and here's the result of those enduring moments.

This piece also serves as homage a visual metaphor to our lovely app Blender.

I'm hoping some of my fellow Blenderheads could catch the meaning though.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. great man!, sometime you should do a lighting and compositing tutorial, I'm always blown away by the look and feel of your images, as well as that grungy grungy aged you often apply

  2. The dust definnitely makes it feel more like-like. and the little thread of dust, funny thing I was actually thinking about that kind of thing yestrerday when I saw a little thread hanging off the couch and wondered: would anybody replicate that imperfection in CG and would it work out? great job! I apreciate the little details like that and I think it worked well, it makes the scene a lot more believable.
