Why would game artists want to make some edges sharp?
Because they can define geometry better with less polygons.
isn't that the same as "mark sharp" in combination with an edgesplit modifier on a smooth shaded object?
Yes, but it doesn't split the edge, it keeps the geometry intact. this makes it easier to export into other packages, without splitting the mesh up into tiny pieces.
Yeah, what Sterling Roth said. It's exactly what game developers in particular need. The fewer extra vertices, the better.
Does the audio sound like an underwater robot to anyone else?
The sound is fine here. Connection problems maybe?
