This is a test scene for the Ponderosa Pine preset I am working on to go with The Grove 3D tree growing software. This is just a small section of the lower part of the render. I modeled and textured two different twigs with needles, pine cone buds and end needles. The trunk bark is a mix of two different textures, using a musgrave texture to help reduce repetitiveness. The branches also have two different textures mixed this way. The trunk bark has a layer of knots added to the displacement and diffuse to further add to the randomness. Most of the trees were grown 3 at a time, with an offset in years for more random growth. There are a few young trees as well. A single tree can be grown with the preset and fully textured in about one minute! The developer of The Grove 3D, Wybren van Keulen, has made several updates and speed enhancements to the program and I am proud to help support his work.

Very nice, great model and lighting (maybe a little too dark though).
Thank you, Lucky!
Seems that renders being too dark is a common issue, at least for me anyway. Yes, I do agree the contrast could be lessened. Interestingly, if you hover over the image above it will automatically lighten. :) That said, I wanted to have the sensation of being in middle of a forest, where it can be very dark during daylight even, so there are panels of tree renders with transparent backgrounds on each side to cast shadows. This mostly was a test to see how the preset looked, so more fine tuned images will come later!
