Blender has won two prizes in the annual 3D World Magazine CG Awards!

3D World writes:

Software Innovation Award

For this award, we’re looking for software or services that break new ground, deliver new techniques, and provide a clear benefit for artists in the creation or implementation of CG assets.

VFX Film Short Award

This category rewards those teams without the staff and budget of blockbuster movies: the studios that deliver film-quality FX on weekly TV shows, or amateur filmmakers who ply their trade on the web.

Ton Roosendaal comments:

Even though focus has been on stabilizing and fixing last year, we've done releases nearly every 2 months with exciting new tools and technology for 3D artists. Things are really taking off well for Blender nowadays. Thanks to all 3DWorld readers for showing their confidence in us!

This isn't the first time that 3D World has awarded Blender: in 2011, Blender was voted Software Update of the Year, and Sintel won for Best Short CG Animation of the Year. In 2012, Blender won the Software Update of the Year award.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

    Congratulations Mango Team!
Of course this wouldn't be possible without.. Blender!!

Congratulations to all the devs and all the people that work so hard to make Blender a reality.

    Thank you all!

  2. I started trying to learn 3ds max again today. Just made me realise how much better Blender actually is! Congrats and thanks Blender devs and community :D

  3. A big Congrats to Ton and all the team. Blender has open so many doors for so many people and put to reach tools that only a few could get access to. Those awards are well deserved.
